While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

We'll offer what we can then say tons of prayers she will commit to putting in the time and effort and avoid distractions (Even us. Ha!) Seems your son has mastered that art, which seems to be a good thing in their chosen field.

Oh 8isenuff our recruit (soon to be a nuke--hopefully) also has an older sis who graduated PharmD May 2014. So very proud of all our kids. 1 Navy, 1 Marine recruit in DEP, 1 K-9 police officer, 1 PharmD.

AParents, my son is currently onboard CVN72. He's a MM3. What I remember from MM A School, nothing compares. My son did AP everything and
college before the Navy, without much effort. None of it mattered when Nuke school started. He said it wasn't extremely hard is the ton of info you need to retain on a daily basis.
I don't have much communication with my sailor this days. He's extremely busy at work. The carrier is in overhaul but the nukes work only on the reactor. He's been taking tests to finally get qualified. I will be going to VA in September for his 22nd birthday.

Comment by AParents on July 31, 2015 at 11:16am: Thanks Mark. Can you or someone give us an overview of what is covered in MM A school. Is it pretty much equivalent to high school trig and pre cal and something like AP physics and chemistry or will it be harder than that, more on a major college level?. It's hard to find out much about it online.

Based on the topics covered; if the site works properly, it's a great idea that should have been done years ago to give baby nucs a chance to better prepare. The math and physics would be the first priority because those subjects come early in power school. Chemistry and radiation come in second half. I suspect they chose the four areas they did because the subject matter is the least specific to naval nuclear power. They cover other topics in power school that, if given the same treatment as the four areas they selected, would give too much of a look at the curriculum.

Which part of that material would be helpful for us to provide to our Sailor Recruit to look at prior to A school. Which part for PowerSchool, which part for Prototype. So she has a little bit of an idea of what she will be up against, curriculum wise before she get's to A school, and beyond. Her recruiter didn't mention any of that, not sure if any of it has been mentioned or covered during boot camp. Not sure how to use that material between now and the time she starts A school. Would it help if we sent her just alittle of it (which parts) of it to look over her last week in Boot Camp, her first week in Charleston during INDOC. And during her first weeks of A school.
