I am finding this website very helpful.  I am very unfamiliar with the military and I am trying to arm myself with knowledge.

One hour to go then it is off to see his recruiter. We've been in DEP since Sept of 2014. He is so ready to get going. We are sad to see him off, yet on the other hand, we are very excited for him. This is our second son to leave for the Navy in 9 months. It's tough at first but well worth it when you get to see them graduate from Great Lakes. It is an awesome feeling. Enjoy the letters and phone calls you will get from them. The letters you get from your sailor will make you wonder who this stranger is writing me letters! Our oldest, who is on a CVN now loves his work and enjoys being out to sea rather than being stuck in port. It is awesome to hear all of the things he is learning and doing. We are excited to see what adventures wait his little brother. His journey will be longer and more difficult as he ships off to train as a Navy Nuke. Like Rocky Road said "Suck it up buttercup it's go time!"

My4sonsjrbm, I left info for you on your My Page.

If he is outside of the weight limits and has to be measured with a tape measure and his measurements are outside of the limits, he will not ship. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen (It happened just last week to a future Sailor). If he does ship and is close to the limit, he needs to be very careful because he could be separated at BC if he doesn't keep it down.

Separated means to be sent home.

He must pass the PFA at BC, which includes the Body Composition Assessment (BCA). Those who fail the BCA fail the PFA and if he does not pass  by a deadline given to him, then he will be separated. The fitness standards for the PRT change in 2016 so he has to be diligent.

If he has been making the standard, then he will be fine.

If I have used a term that is not familiar to you, check out What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).

:o) You are very welcome.

I am thinking warm and happy thoughts for you all today (and fighting a few threatening tears of my own) as we get closer to my son leaving the 18th.  Best of luck to you and all your children!

Very stressful day. We met with recruiter for 24 hour checkin. My son was fine until then. Afterwards, I guess it became real and he became very nervous and quite grouchy. Made the dinner not easy. As we dropped him at hotel he opened up and we said our emotional goodbye. We meet him at MEPS between 8 and 9 to see him sworn in. He hadn't decided if he wants us to go to the airport yet. I am very happy for this site.
Today is the day. Aug 4t . Just got a text saying he finished everyyhing and he is just waiting to be sworn in. We are on way to watc . Can't believe i . I am so proud of him but I just want to cry.

Hang in there Flydogmom! You've got this! This is just the culmination of all your hard work and training over these past years. The Navy is just going to polish him up now. In two months he will stand in front of you and you will be so proud of the man he has become. Enjoy this journey, it will be awesome to see.

My nephew has been in 15months and was home the last week to see his cousin off to bootcamp. I see my nephews' transformation of a young boy to man. Tough times don't last, tough people do. My son called from Great Lakes...he arrived at camp and will get us his address. Meanwhile, I will be supportive and Trust God on this journey!

August 4th is almost over and hopefully the nervous energy of the past few days felt by all of us is finally spent. The swearing in was short and simple, the hanging around part waiting for the last goodbyes was differcult...but it was time and he was ready to go. Called from Logan about Noon and was due to get on a 2:15pm flight to Great Lakes.  The 3hr flight arrived on time in Chicago and at 6pm I got a text from him.  He sounded more like himself, I think he was relieved to be there finally. I am so happy to have this day over...as he knows so many family and friends believe in him and will continue to support him as he continues to make us proud Americans. This site is just great and I hope to be on more to share with my new extended family.  God Bless Us All and our new Sailors!

That's great! I am hoping that my son's day tomorrow goes just as smoothly. He will only have a 45 min flight so he should get to Chicago earlier in the day. Let us know when you get the first call from him! God Bless!
