Well first off - Happy Belated Birthday Donna!  Hope you had a nice day ;-)

Secondly - so glad to hear that your son is figuring out what might be the issue!  Good to know that he was able to move his seat back with the others - sounds like he is already feeling better ;-)

Comment by DonnaEricsMom on August 5, 2015 at 10:34am

Okay, so my son now thinks I'm a nut.  Not far from the truth. LOL  When he called me last night he barely got out "Hi Mom, Happy Birthday" and I told him everything everyone here said.  He started laughing and said I bet you waited all day to tell me that, didn't you. I had to laugh because he was right.  I was so encouraged my everyone's input that I just barfed it out at him before he new it.  LOL

He did say that some things changed in the class room (where he sits) and he thinks that might make the difference.  Or at least that's what we are hoping.  About a month ago they all moved seats and he noticed that when that happened he started struggling in class.  Yesterday the guys he used to sit with told him to come back and sit with them in the front of the class.  That in its self made him feel good and I think that being back with the group of guys that he started PS with gives him more self confidence.  At least that's what I heard in him voice.

As my son is an only child he's struggled with making friends.  He's a very loyal and true friend and figured out that the people he thought were his friend in grade school and high school really weren't.  He's finally made some good friends in the Navy and I'm so thankful for that.  He always wanted a brother or sister and now I see that he's got them.  : )  It actually makes me a little teary eyed just thinking  about it.

So he's got another test on Thursday, so we will see if this classroom move will change his struggling on tests.  I'll try to keep everyone posted.  Thank you all again for your support and kindness.

Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

britefuture - wow!  That's quite a heat index.  I can't even imagine.....glad to hear he is doing well - makes the momma heart happy ;-)

This is why I love it here. So much encouragement from every side. Everybody's story is just a little different and we can learn so much. Congrats on all the advancements!

My sailor is never going to be the first to raise his hand, the first in line, the stand-out. He told me long ago he doesn't want to be the best and have everybody looking at him. (Say, what?) When I was at his place in SD this past July, his wife has a bunch of his plaques and such on the wall. She framed a letter from the commander at proto who commended him for his performance while he was on staff. He never said a word to me. What a stinker.

Hang in there, Donna. They are learning more than just physics and chemistry. They are learning how to cope with stress and handle adversity. It's part of being an nuke. Keep us posted on how he does. I have a feeling everything will be just fine.

Good morning everyone. Finally have a little break with the hot weather here in the northeast. Yay! I hope you are all well and your Sailors are thriving. I got a short message, yesterday, from mine. Basically saying the heat is horrible, 154 heat index, but he's doing good. He is in Division now so he's been in the reactor room often. Got a burn on his hand and the ship has no burn cream.  No worries though! He assured me that he's fine.

I had a lot to catch up on as it's been a busy summer for my family

Besties4dogs- Congrats on your new MM. I took my Sailor to the airport once and vowed not to do it again. It's just too hard on me and it doesn't make it any easier for my son. We part company in my driveway so it feels less permanent. Lol! I think we've all have those "blubbering" moments with our kids. My so is on deployment right now. He left my driveway 3 months ago and returns to his new port, San Diego, the end of November. I am on the East Coast, as well. There is rumor that they may be extending the deployment another two months. While it's difficult, sometimes, to have him so far away I think about all of the places that he's seen in just 3 months. We don't speak often, only when they stop in port for a day or so, but when we have spoken the excitement in his voice made it worth my separation anxiety. For me, coping has been keeping up with everyone hear and reading their stories. I quilt, when I can. And I recently started a scrapbook of my son's journey. If you haven't already, look to see if his ship has a FB page. My son's ship makes multiple post everyday with photos, both on and off the ship, "shout out" videos and stories of daily life on the ship. This is all very therapeutic stuff for this mom. ((((N4M)))

Dittersmom- computers make me crazy at home and at work. Ugh! Glad your back! Love the Doctor analogy.

8isenuff- Congrats on your new ET Nuke

Donna- Prayers for your son. I understand your and his struggle. My son had ups and downs all through PS. There was a time that I didn't think that he was gonna make it. But with the right group of Buddies, he made it through. Continue to encourage him as I'm sure you do. That's a good bunch down at GC. They'll do all they can to keep his head above water.

TJ Proudnavymom- That new rate sounds exciting. Good luck to your Sailor

My daughter and her Army husband got orders for Hawaii yesterday. So now two of my three will be way to the left of here. I'm so excited for both of my kids. They've seen more places in their short lives than I have in my 40++++++ years.  What more could I want for them?

Donna (Eric's mom), when my son started power school the first three months were fantastic, his scores up there. After that he started the struggle. He failed a test, and his confidence went down. There was no option for him but to fight. I prayed and prayed for him, for his wellbeing, and I came here for support. He didn't regained his prior fantastic scores, but he passed and graduated with his class. He couldn't believe that he made it. The struggle didn't end with PS. Prototype was hard, we had almost no communication, getting signatures were the worst, until he mastered the art. He passed his 100%, but had to reboard his orals. (Those were the worst days for him, and for me!) He didn't graduate Prototype with his class but neither 15 or so more kids. He took the orals boards again, passed and three days later was home on leave. Now onboard CVN72, he's working along the smartest sailor in his class that was also assigned to the Lincoln. There is no difference in the fleet. As Dittersmom mentioned "a doctor that passed with all C's is also a Doctor". My sailor learned to settle with the results of his best effort. Your sailor will be fine. He can take care of this. Just to keep giving it his best.

Hi Donna (Eric's Mom) my Sailor is in 1504-7.  I have only met one other Nuke Mom on the facebook page that has a Sailor is his class.  He is the class leader and is a little tough on some of his classmates.  He wants them to focus and not fool around so he has to show authority at times so I am sure a few Sailors out there don't care for him but when he is out of class.....he has the biggest heart out there!  Again, good luck to your Sailor and just keep on being a great Momma and he will get through this.  ;-)

TJProudnavymom, best wishes to your sailor. Every sailor I have heard from on this board that was re-rated was very happy with it. I bet your son will be the same. This isn't a failure...it's a new opportunity! Fair winds and following seas to both of you.

Comment by William in Nashua on August 4, 2015 at 5:09pm

TJ Proudnavymom good luck to your son in his new rating of missile tech. I think that is the best outcome I can remember anyone getting who left the nuke program during training.

Comment by DonnaEricsMom on August 4, 2015 at 3:02pm

Rhonda K thank you for the encouraging words.  He's in 1503-3 or that's what I put on the mailing label.  What class is you son in?
