I'm sure they enjoy getting out- that's one thing our future CTI wanted- was to get out into the world. That area of GA is pretty nice- beats USAF linguists getting stuck in South Texas dusty heat most of the year. Looks like you can get to the beach or snow skiing from Augusta in about 3-4 hours- not too shabby. Have you visited the area?
Thanks Lisa!
DNavyFamily,
Ft. Gordon is a duty station that SOME CTIs will go to after graduating DLI in Monterey. Not all of them go to Ft. Gordon. It depends on their language and whether they chose sea duty first or shore duty first.
rebeccachaplain,
Your daughter's language will not be absolute until she actually starts classes. Often, a person's language is changed once they arrive at DLI. Of course, they won't bump them up to a higher category. But they often change the language if it's in the same category.
Do CTIs go to Ft Gordon first and then to Monterey? I've heard bits and pieces of that- anyone know how that all works? I've never heard of the place outside I saw it's an Army base- not too close to water! LOL!
Hi rebeccachaplain. I notice that there is not a lot of activity in this group as there is when the recruit is in BC at GL. Once your daughter graduates 8/28 and ships for DLI the next day communication begins! It is a new world for the new sailor. A lot of freedom and communication with family. I have seen that they also will eventually get overnight weekend liberty. We live too far away to visit so we will have to wait for graduation. We live in the south eastern region. Will you be close to DLI? Praying that PFI and Battle stations go well for your daughter. Remember to take her phone and computer to the airport after PIR so you do not have to ship later.
With all due respect, Jackl, this is the kind of information we shouldn't be discussing on this or any other social medial forum. Your son or daughter will figure it out when they get to that point. I know inquiring mom minds want to know all that's happening/going to happen with their kiddo, but with the world as it is, we have to be super careful.
We stayed at the Otter Inn. It was a perfect location, as it was walking distance to Cannery Row, the restaurants and shopping. We spent way more time doing all of that stuff than we did on the base. So it just made sense to stay closer to the "fun" stuff. It was very reasonably priced.
