Hello,  My name is Debbie and my daughter Aolani left for bootcamp on Aug 18th.  So she is 2 days into the next stage of her life and all I can think about is what she is doing every minute of the day.  My biggest fear is that she is emotionally ok.  The physicall part I have no worries as she was very well prepared physically.  Emotionally she was ready to leave and begin her career however me as a mother I worry about her emotions.  Typical mother I guess.

I laid my phone down next to my face the night she flew to ORD and tossed and turned waiting for the phone call.  She sounded GREAT.  She sounded excited and that made me feel better.  How do mothers and fathers get thru each day wondering what there child is doing.  Did they get enough sleep?  Have they cried?  Are they in control of there emotions?  Are they OK?

Graduation?  When will I know the actual graduation date so I can prepare for travel arrangments.

Thanks everyone mom for there support and GOD BLESS!

My son arrived to boot camp last night as well. I am sooooo proud of him but miss him already!!
Aug 26 still no letter but I called my daughters recruiter and he gave me her ship no and division no so I can start writing her. He said she was doing great and that I should be receiving letter soon. Her recruiters were the best. Shout out to petty officer Hodge and petty officer Guillaino for making my daughter feel part of the navy family before she left for bootcamp. Letter to her already in the mail. Can't wait to hear from her.

Your recruit shipped on the 18th and ten days after arrival is the average time to receive The Form Letter.

Wait on The Form Letter before sending any more letters.

Reasons to wait on The Form Letter before sending letters:

1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp.

2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.

3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.

***

Note: If it has been at least 2 calendar weeks since your recruit arrived at the RTC and you do not have a form letter, then you can call the recruiter and get the address and mail letters to your recruit, but be sure to double-check the address against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or Ship/Division--How it Works. That does not apply to you at this time.

Hi,

Our son left yesterday.  Got a quick phone call at midnight to say he was there. Quick I love you and that was it.  I texted my husband today and said I wonder what Tanner is doing.  Its so strange not to be in contact with him.  I can't wait for graduation.  I will be looking for his box of things in the next couple of weeks.

I hope your daughter is doing awesome~~

Sandi

My sone left on 8/13 and we all received letters today. I was so excited to hear from him, but he told his dad boot camp was ok, his little brother it sucked, me its ok. Not sure what he told his older brother since he has been through army bc. Not sure when to expect a phone call but told my husband what area code to be on the look out for.

Can't wait to see him at graduation!

My son left on 8/24. Miss him a lot but I'm sure he's doing the right thing and I am so proud of him! Thank you everyone for your posts, I have many of the same questions.

My son left on 08/13/15.  I can't stop thinking about him.  I'm writing letters like a crazy person.  I don't want them to say mail call and he doesn't have anything.

I don't blame you:)  Once I have an address I will be sending him letters.  Tanner just got there on Wednesday so I know I have a wait to get a letter:(

Take care,

Sandi

Our son had an in grown toe nail that he needed taken care of before he left.  He called his recruiter and they said get it done before.......they would do it in Basic.....but may have set him back a couple of days.

Sandi

sandihas5, An ingrown toenail can actually keep a future Sailor from being able to ship to the RTC, so when it is discovered before BC, it should be taken care of.

If you have any questions about basic, feel free to message me. I graduated boot camp 2 months ago and am still currently in GL for A school. Here to answer any questions you may have.

My daughter left 8/26 and I miss her so much its hard to function during the day for me I can t stop crying!! When do you think Ill hear from her? when can they start to call and write us? this no communication thing is killing me!! so used to being able to call or text her whenever I want. I just want to know she is ok!!
