Let's chat about our wonderful sons and daughters who have chosen the PACT program.

Hello

It has been a long time since I have posted and I am sorry. I hope everyone has been able to connect with others in the PACT program. My son is now 3 and a half years in and it has been a great experience. He thought he wanted to be an AM. When he got on the ship, he was put with the AO’s. Now he is an AD3. It was best for him to start PACT because we didn’t know much about the Navy and he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. This has been a good route for him.

DepthCharge4, I don't want to sound negative, The Navy gives you lots of experiences. It was actually a good 8 years for my daughter. But hindsight is 20/20, she wishes she would have spoke up and did things a little differently.

STA-21 would be a great move for your daughter.

Also my daughter got her ESWS pin in 6 months while on deployment. I'm sure the ECWS can be gotten in less then a year.

I knew it! Thanks, CrackerjackMom5! I appreciate the honest 20/20 on that! Talked to daughter last night and she told me she will submit a package for STA-21 next year.

Haven't been on here in a while, but I wanted to put my 2 cents in. My daughter recently got out of the Navy after 8 years. She went in Undesingnated, she left as a BM2. I know her advice would be to not settle for Boatswain Mate, she said those exact words "brain turning to mush."

It is very hard to cross rate into another rate once you get one. They will try to push BM on everyone, I hate to say it but it's cheap labor for the Navy. Tell your sailors to talk with their councilors, find out what rates are open.

Yes, michaelsmom, I believe a year due to new changes, but daughter is an E-3 so maybe that makes a difference between year and year and a half that your son tells you? Not certain about that. She knows that striking for BM would keep her at that job for two years minimum and her time with Navy would be almost up or at least not enough time to strike for an A school position without Re-upping. I'm also praying she proves him wrong ( in a respectful way). It is days like these my doubts come back about her recruiter talking her into joining as PACT instead of waiting for a desired rate...I remember Mary Moses Powell from one of the Facebook Pages I'll try to find her again.

Welcome angelmomma12! My son originally was assigned to AO but that is. It where he wanted to be. He made the best of it and worked hard. He was there for 3 months and this week his chief told him that they really didn't want to give him up but they figured he was willing to work that hard doing something he didn't want to do, he should be given the opportunity to work hard doing what he wants to do! Hard work pays off! He is now with the AD's and loves it! This is what he wants to strike in! I am so glad he had that experience. He learned that hard work pays off!
