Rhonda - congrats on your new grandbaby!

Nana Donna - it's great that you got to see his boat come in. I did not realize until my son was underway that boomers do NOT get that kind of home coming! In fact we might not even be notified that they are returning until they are home!

In my son's case, he was actually transferred at sea to a coast guard vessel and sailed back to an Island near the home port. He was on a ride along since his boat has been in dry dock.

In the end all was well as long as he was home safely!

Hello all, I haven't posted in a long time but do pop in often and read.

My grandson just returned last week from a 7 month deployment on the USS Albuquerque it's final deployment.  It was so hard for him to be gone that long especially for his wife and 2 small children.  We were able to go to San Diego and watch the boat come into port.  It was amazing watching him come of the boat.  His little 7 month old son cried when he tried to hold him, but his 4 year old was so excited to see her Daddy.

While he was underway his wife did receive several emails but there was a couple periods of very long silence.  Here is a funny thing about emails.  After we welcomed him hone she was sitting there 2 days later and received 2 emails from him, so the delivery is certainly delayed/

Rhonda, congratulations on the new grandbaby. My son is silent now but emailed my DIL last week. He wrote that he gets our emails but has limited time to respond. When he gets to port, I am hoping for a shout out of some sort.

Regarding emails, My son said even if I don't often get one from him, he gets all of mine and said keep em coming as that is his lifeline to the outside world.

Phoebs, so glad to see that you found that "lost" email from your sailor. That should keep you going for awhile. What I do, is I keep all my sailors emails in a folder on the computer, so when they are out & I haven't heard from them in awhile, I read over his past emails & that makes me feel better.

Rhonda881-thank you and Congrat on that new grandson!  Glad to hear everyone is healthy and baby is doing well.

Phoebs, don't give up.  The last deployment my sailor was on we went almost 9 weeks without communication because they were on a mission.  That is when they are running silent. I started to get concerned even though I was an "experienced" Navy mom.  It had never been that long before.  When he finally was able to contact us, he was even happy to talk to us!!!  He said he had been working so much he wouldn't have had time to email us anyway.

Haven't posted in a long time.  My sailor is on shore duty for another several months so I haven't had much to say.
Best news is my sailor became a first time dad on July 21st!!!  He is now the proud father of a beautiful baby boy.  Everyone is doing find.  Brayden did make his appearance almost 8 weeks early but is perfectly healthy and growing like a weed.  His mom is diabetic is the reason for the premature birth but we were truly blessed with how healthy he was.
Hope all is well with all of your sailors.

Hang in there Phoebs! Many of us have been there. Keep your emails coming! About halfway through my sons underway, my email was returned "this person does not exist" or something to that effect! All I could think of was he was thrown off the boat - ha! It turned out to be an email glitch with the boat. He is getting your emails even if he cannot respond!

I haven't been on here in a while.  However, I'm now working on over 30 days of not receiving even an email from my sailor.  Last email we received was to let us know he had finished his Quals and should be receiving his dolphins hopefully that night.  I made the mistake of getting excited to hear about the new experience, I'm still waiting.  Since this is his second patrol I knew there would be a time when he would go quite.  I thought I was prepared and found things to keep me busy.  Even his dad is missing hearing from him.  I continue to email and I know that no news is good news.  Tonight when I checked my email I even got a little weepy, I so wanted to hear from him.
