Great Lakes Ship 03 Div 334 PIR 10/02/2015 Anyone??

I am one happy mom, we received his box today and his form letter yesterday.  First letter is in the mail.  I kept it to only 2 pages..lol  I can't wait to hear from him.  Getting the box was emotional as your child's clothes he had on come home but he didn't, such a weird feeling.  We could not be more proud of son. I did hear something from some Facebook friends today in regards to the letters to our SR's and if anyone can chime in that would be great.  I was advised by a couple of prior military people to not over send letters as this could lead to some slack from officers and other SR's.  They said to ask my son and have him feel it out.  Anyone ever heard this before?  To all the other mom's out there waiting on your box and form letter, be patient, its a great feeling when it comes.  :)

Write. You were given bad advice. Write daily. Encourage friends and family to write. Recruits live for mail. Its their anchor to reality.

Thank you, I have done exactly that. I want him to have a connection to home. And know that we are all here supporting his choice to serve his country and we are proud of him..

Hi, my son is ship 03, division 334 too.  Only received the form letter, I think he donated his clothes, not sure.  I have sent him 3 letters so far, but heard nothing back.  Look forward to sharing as we hear from them.

I have heard that they can not send or receive mail until 2 to 3 weeks in

Tylersmom, they cannot receive mail until the RMPO is trained and cannot send mail until the first Sunday (mail is collected in a box and then mailed on Monday) after they are in their permanent ship. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.

Write, write, write! As much as you can. I wrote a letter every day from the day he left and numbered the envelopes. He got a stack when I finally got his address. I also had people write cards at his going away party. I mailed those out throughout his time in BC. At PIR my son said that no matter how tough his day was, he knew at mail call there would be something for him (his sister and GF also wrote alot as did other friends.) Just remember to be positive and upbeat in your letters and try not to talk about how much you miss them because it makes them sad. I sent lots of cartoons and an inspirational quote at the end of each letter.

lemonelephant, is there a list of possible or past items that have been included in the baskets for Sarges meet and greet?  I want to put one together for the raffle, but now sure what is appropriate.

Comment by lemonelephant on August 31, 2015 at 10:16pm

dcgmom, there have been baskets representing each state. There have been baskets representing various hobbies. There have been food baskets. There have been baskets representing various holidays. Remember the Meet and Greet is open to all ages. I haven't seen mention of a toy or baby basket, but those might be interesting.

Pretty much anything is welcome.
