My grandson SR will be heading to Groton in late October so I'm requesting early entry into this group. Gotta get up to snuff on all the acronyms and activity. Thanks for considering my request to join.

Thanks for that info doubletrouble.  It's interesting that your son on the sub saw more foreign ports than the one on a ship!  I will keep that in mind.  Good luck to your boys!

Hi tam17730! I have a son on a fast attack in Groton also. You can email him anytime although you may not hear back from him. When our son deployed last year, we were told they would receive our emails, but would not be able to respond unless in port somewhere. I emailed often, but short emails, that is also how the boat receives info on their mission.
As for the "what to yell family", I would just tell ours that he is deployed & we didn't know where. If they pressed, I would tell them the submarines are called the silent service for a reason. He did call us 3 times during their deployment. It's tough, but he saw 3 different countries during his first deployment! Our other sailor, while deployed last year on a destroyer only ported in one country.

Hello, My son was recently deployed on a fast attack sub from Groton.  Can anyone tell me how I will know when I can email him or what I can and cannot say about him to friends and family?

Hi All.

My son left August 5 for boot camp. Still trying to find my way around everywhere. He's going to be a MT.

Hope to "meet" everyone

My son reports to Pearl Harbor and his first boat since graduating top of his class from A school (MM-aux) next week.  How do I send an 18 year old to Hawaii by himself? How do I send him somewhere that I have never even been?  He is following in his dad's footsteps, the submariner that I married 24 years ago!  Getting anxious...

My son will soon graduate from Great Lakes and is headed to Mississippi for yeoman training and then on to sub school in Groton.  He has not idea yet where he will be stationed. The first few weeks were pretty rough and I can't wait to see him. We are headed up on the 18th.

Hi everyone, My son arrived in Bangor, WA in May, directly after completing A school in Groton as a STS. He is assigned to the USS Kentucky, which is scheduled for about 18 more months of overhaul(as I understand it) but just returned today as a rider on the USS Alabama. I did not even know there was a "submariner moms" group until just a few days, have posting on the "sub moms" page for awhile and recognize some names here, too(hi, Rhonda8881 !)
