Yep, time for some discussion, tried today, but they just kept talking and wouldn't listen. So tomorrow, going to tell them, time to listen to what I am saying. Not making things harder, easier actually. We shall see, and yes I am the boss..LOL

hellraiser, LOVE the picture! So very happy for her and your family! I could feel all the emotions also. HOOYAH congrats to your beautiful Sailor!

Fist day of school was very interesting. The women that work there only want to do the very minimum of their job.. Hmmm I want to be that fair nice boss, so will tell them again what their job intails. It is not like it is a huge school, they server about half of what we did, at the other school. Also they have no one who wants to step up and do my job, should I be gone... So Blondie, I hope everyone will like me when I finish telling them what is what. ..LOL

hellraiser,

Congratulations to your daughter!!!!  Reading your post gave me goosebumps and brought back those memories of my girl's PIR back in 2008!!!  It never gets old.  Plus I am reminded of other daughter's OCS commissioning.  Again, watching them march in . . . . Priceless.   Glad travels were all good and yep, now the real roller coaster ride begins!!!!!  On the subject of overseas cellphones, I'm afraid I have no info to share.  I will say tho that when son in law was in Saudi Arabia and Sailor Son was in Afghanistan we used an app called KIK.  The boys used the internet and we used cell towers to message back and forth but there was no delay in the communications.  I could be riding down the road and as long as I had cell towers I could chat away with them around the world.  It was wonderful!!!!

Catsmom,

Glad day one is down.  I know you will have the place running smoothly in no time!!!  And you get to do it YOUR way (well, within limits I'm sure) but still!!!!

Marti B,

Sorry your time with the grandkids is over.  I'm getting ready to see my two in 5 days!!!!!  They are 5 and almost 3.  How old are yours?

Jn/Jf

Glad you had the phone info - I never had one overseas that could use a phone.  I would be interested to hear how it goes once she switches to an Italian phone service.

Greetings to everyone else!!!  And have a wonderful week!!!

Hi all, I am so happy for you hellraiser, I agree the Navy does it good! I grew up an Army Brat, been to many military ceremonies. The Navy PIR stands out. I will never forget it.

I agree worth all the trouble getting there! I was the only adult from our family who went, I took my grandson to see her.

hellraiser - dd just moved to italy a couple weeks ago. She said everyone there has told her she needs to get her Sprint phone unlocked (sprint does that -- called a "military unlock") and get a SIM card  through Vodafone, a European (or Italian?) company to put in her Sprint phone.

Up until now she has been using Sprint & it's just our regular monthly charge because of some newer International program they now offer (we had to sign her up for it).  We have to text through imessage or an app like Viber, but both use wifi, so no extra charges.  We have been calling each other through Viber, also.  It's worked great, but she is being told she'll need an Italian phone number so work, landlord, etc can get ahold of her.

We plan to switch her over later this week when we both have time.   We have also been told that will be the cheapest way, probably a savings of about $40/month.

From what I've heard...cheapest way to go is have her get one over there. I checked a couple here like Verizon and very expensive 2 years ago. Might be new technology now though:)
