OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

So have you guys made reservations yet ,I'm sure you are planning to go. We are staying at the Holliday inn. I think the paper they sent with the firm letter said it's about 5 miles away.

Lol, candy2... I'm sure I will be balling also. I have been such an emotional wreck since my son left.

Yes, I can't wait for that first call ,boy I remember my first call in basic,I was so overwelmed just to hear my mom's voice. I balled, lol but it was a good cry, just to hear that voice that you know for sure loves you. : ) I'm sure I'll be crying with her.lol

Thank you candy2, that does make me feel a little better. I think the reason I got so upset is because I missed the call on Sunday, because I know they get privileges on Sundays. My son arrived on the 18th. We are in week 3, I hope we all get a call soon ;-)

Hi Betty, if it makes you feel any better, my daughter arrived Aug 19th and I haven't got the first real call. So that probably wasn't him.She told me when I got the I'm here call that they told her it will be about 3 weeks before she can call again. So I'm thinking maybe this coming Sunday. Because some of the veteran mom's have said on here that they get privileges on sundays.so let's pray for Sunday. Lol

Guysmom, he's doing well. Adjusting to the Navy way, lol. But overall sounds happy to be there. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, it's really been a rough few days. I missed a call Sunday from a restricted number & I felt so bad that I was crying all day long. My husband tried to assure me that if it was my son he would have left a message but I just keep thinking it was him & I missed his call. I still feel terrible about it. I hope things get easier because I am a mess, lol. I hope everyone is having a good week so far. God bless each and everyone of you & your SR's.
