Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by KevsMom on September 2, 2015 at 3:33pm: We booked through Priceline and got a great deal. Direct flights (convenient times), Springhill Suites/Marriott in Waukegan and rental car. We can change flights if necessary (for a fee) but are hoping that all will go as planned. Counting the days!

Comment by diannep on September 2, 2015 at 8:38am: urbanfarmgirl: They can mail out personal mail usually a couple of weeks after arrival after the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. It goes out on Monday (collected Sundays). They then can only write once a week, mailed out Mondays, but can receive mail M-F.

Your SR will learn quickly about the phone cards from the other SRs and the RDCs! He can buy one with his NEX supply card (card is loaded with the maximum amount and he can't use it after Bootcamp so may as well deplete it there....cost comes out of his pay). But mailing him one will save him money where he can use it on something else!

I haven't, but I'm thinking their first opportunity for that might have been just this past Sunday? Does that sound right?

I'm not sure my son would have any idea what a calling card is, so I'm not holding my breath for a real phone call....

We haven't booked out airfare yet. I had read somewhere that prices are usually lowest on Tuesday nights/Wednesday mornings. But there was no price change in any of the flights i looked at, comparing tonight to the weekend. Boo.

We did book out hotel, using our Hilton points. The Navy Lodge would be convenient, but points are free, and Homewood Suites gives you a bedroom and a seperate livingroom/kitchen. I figured if he wants to just relax, we'd have more space to hang out on the couch, watch movies, pop popcorn, play cards, whatever..... Just an idea.

Comment by wittroan on September 1, 2015 at 11:26pm: We got our letter last week. Called the Navy Lodge the very next day and it was already booked. Yes they told us to keep calling back to check for cancellations. Was bummed because we were told this was a really cool place to stay.
