I remember when my son was sent to the GW when it was in Australia. The transition went well. I think all the sailors are use to new arrivals.

Happy Friday Ladies!

Mary - I sent you a friend request

Alyce - Hope your son gets a warm welcome from his new shipmates.  Hey, they all have to be the "new guy" at one point!  I'm sure he'll make friends right away

Welcome BeachBunny!!!!  We meet again!  (BeachBunny & I are in another group too)  Cool having our kids on the same cruise!

Gail1957 - I usually don't get a phone call from my son until they pull into a port (email is my best friend while underway!) I'm aware of the ship-to-shore calling cards but my son has never used them.  I think they can buy them on the ship though.

Odi - I always look at those pics on facebook too....keep thinking one of these days I'll see my son but so far I've only seen him in one group pic and if he hadn't told me where he was I would have never picked him out! LOL

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  Keep all our sailors in your prayers for a safe cruise!

He's so nervous about being sent to the ship. He feels like he'll be like the "new kid in school" after school already started. I'm so hoping it's better than he's made it out to be in his mind.

I do not post much but I enjoy this forum and look forward to seeing pics on facebook of their journey

Hi Alyce....oh, it'll be cool if he gets flown out to the carrier!! Nothing like it in the world, such an experience!!

OMG BeachBunny!! Hi!! I had to check and make sure I was on the right group when I saw your name! LOL!! So happy you're here! I haven't "left" the Pensacola group yet because I thought every now and again I might be able to chime in and help some. You have been such a big help for me!! Now I'll have more to learn from you! My son is headed to Norfolk to work on the GW when it arrives. He's not sure if he'll have to wait there or if they're sending him to the ship. He'll find that out soon, I guess.

Anyone hearing anything about departure? What kind of phone options do we have on a cruise of this kind? During RIMPAC 2014 we had phone service when they were in port in Hawaii but don't know if it's the same in other ports? Phone cards or ??????
