Thanks a lot for the info.  My son is just 18 years old.  He arrived at Groton, CT on 9/5/15.  He has told me they already gave him a mail box key, but he doesn't know the address yet.  His job is MT.  He just now started with the process of filling out papers and stuff like that, but I know that he is going to need civilian clothes and other personal items eventually.

Good afternoon,

My Son just graduated from bootcamp and he is now in Groton, CT.

Does anyone knows how we can send personal items to him by regular mail?

Son just got orders for sub school in Groton. Does anyone know how long it is?

Next he has orders for fast attack Albany out of Norfolk. He was hoping for a Boomer out of King's Bay. He will be an MM AUX

When the guys tease each other it is a good thing per my son. He says that if they don't then they don't like you. Ribbing is usually all in good fun. You should hear some of the nicknames "Princess, Turd, Dick in hand". Some of these carry over from boot camp. My son's did. These guys become family. My son was a best man to a crew member went all the way to Arizona on leave and then helped new couple drive across country in a uhaul with a German Shepherd in the cab to get the couple back to base before they had to ship out again. I didn't sleep for 3 days...they did it during winter with snow and ice and across mountains. My boy was the only one who had ever driven on snow and ice. That scared my more than his last trip out. As mom's we sure spend a lot of time praying and lots of sleepless nights.

Just keep emailing your son. Sometimes they are so busy that it is hard for them to get one out. It makes them feel great to get emails. Sometimes they don't get any for awhile and then they get tons at once. Poor guys only get like 4 hrs of sleep at a time per my son on Rhode Island. He loved getting world news and on his sports team. Remember as long as you are not getting bad news everything is ok. I think that we went almost 5 weeks one time. Last trip out he was only able to get 2 emails out to us. Be glad that it wasn't like in the older days where family had no news for 6 months or more. Stay calm. We are all in the same boat.

My son is currently at Kings Bay has been for almost 2yrs. On Rhode Island sub. Your son will love it there. There is tons of activities around. Plus some of the major theme parks in Florida give them a pass once a year. There is free paintballing around nearby on weekends...my son loves that. Lots of time at the beaches. I hope he likes hot weather. My boy will be leaving there in Oct. Remember when they are out on the boat they can't always get their emails right away. Continue emailing anyway. Also they are very busy so them sending emails out is rough also. They love getting news about the world. Best of luck.

My sailor received his tentative orders.  USS Tennessee in Kings Bay, Georgia.  His first choice was a West Coast fast attack, and he ended up with an East Coast boomer.  He is very happy to be on a sub though.  Someplace new for us to go visit!

SCUBA GIRL AND PHOEBE 1st, I have a new great niece named Phoebe. Her big sister is Lydia. Cute names.

2nd. I know each sailor is given an engraving kit to mark their stuff with name on their own.

3rd My son also likes to do things for himself. He says he earns enough money to do stuff for himself. He went on board with 3 sets he bought himself because he says he was to rotate between three racks.
