OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Glad I joined this group. Connect...is really the grandmother of an SR who arrived on August 25th so I believe his PIR date is 10/25/2015. The info I received today via my daughter-in-law, says he is Ship 02, Div 950. Will that be PIR 20/23? I will not be able to attend, but hope to see the live streaming. Will watch for the link. Thanks for all the support from this group. Ginny (aka connect...)

I hope sooner. My stack of letter is starting to topple over, I write once a day and put a picture or two inside with a note of what that picture means to me.

NavyHusband:  The form letter can actually take up to 2 weeks or longer after their arrival to get to you.

I didn't know how excited I would be to just see his handwriting on the form letter.

I'm getting nervous about receiving the form letter my SR arrived the 26th and I haven't received it yet. Will the mail room at RTC know if hers was sent?

I received my letter yesterday.  Just seeing his print made me smile from head to toe.  Just 7 more weeks!!

My son left from PDX on 8/25/15 and I received his form letter on 8/31/15.

Comment by Plumeria1 on September 4, 2015 at 6:37pm

Not sure if this makes a difference... but anyone who had a recruit leave from PDX get the form letter yet?
