Well and to think I did not want to go to graduation and Blake (the kid I drove everyday) begged me to come. I was totally taken be surprise to learn when I got there that I was the Honors student for the class!!

It was a nice graduation on the beautiful CU campus. Good to see all the Chef Instructors.

Lilo, interesting information--I think your sailor and my daughter's sailor are in the same Power School class, with graduation scheduled just before stand down. She hadn't heard that  "no one currently in the training units are getting leave for Thanksgiving." I wouldn't be surprised either, to be honest.

Dittersmom, so sorry about your Bettle. Thank God you are fine. Hope the insurance cover your losses and then some more. Take care.

Co-twin looks like the bakery is coming along.

Britefuture, sorry for the broken trees. It is frustrating.

Van, please let us know what happens. We will keep you all in our prayers.

I was so happy to get my 2001 diesel beetle Wednesday evening. I got a great deal and was in perfect condition. Friday, I made it to with 18 miles of home (going to see kiddos) when I got rear ended. My bug got squashed. Not sure what happens now. I am so sore today.

Lilo54- My son had some ups and downs while in PS, also. He is the kind of kid that doesn't let things bother him and just, "goes with the flow", of life. Not in PS though. There were times when he was very up-beat and there were times when he was re-thinking his decision to be a Nuke. There was a period of time that he had a lot of mandatory study hours as well. He also didn't come home for Thanksgiving. I had a couple of conversations, with him, that made me very concerned while he was in PS, as these N4M members may remember.  All of that said, he made it through and went on to graduate PS and Proto and is now on the USS Theodore Roosevelt, aircraft carrier, doing great. He has seen parts of the world that I never dreamed that he would see. In my mind Power School is when the pressure really amps. up on these kids, and for good reason. They are being trained to function in the greatest Navy in the world and need to be prepared to handle anything that comes their way under any circumstance. Prototype is a bit more relaxed but will "pressure-up" again towards the end. The only thing that I could do to help my son was just to be his Mom. Whether it was sending a funny card or being his sounding board when things got tough. Stay strong and best of luck to your Sailor. What a roller coaster ride, huh?

My son also did not get to come home for Thanksgiving, we skipped and he texted pictures of his meal. He went to a VERY expensive restaurant down town somewhere.

lilo--it is hard when they cant be with family for the holidays.  we were fortunate that we were able to travel to goose creek the two thanksgivings that my son was there.   your son might get to spend his with other sailors who don't have families visiting or maybe he will get invited along with another sailor's family.  we invited a couple of my sons friends when we were there.

So I had a nice talk with my son who is half way through Power School.  Its tough and he is trying to stay upbeat. He also implied that if he was re-rated it wouldn't be so bad.  He said he is taking it one week at a time.  I know he was also down because he got word that he won't get to take leave at Thanksgiving.  He said no one currently in the training units are getting leave for the Thanksgiving.  Doesn't surprise me though, I wasn't expecting him being able to come home.  His class is set to graduate right before Christmas stand down so I figure they don't want them to miss out on study hours .  He didn't know if he was having classes or not.  I am disappointed but he should be home for Christmas.  Last year he went to boot camp three days before Thanksgiving.  I didn't realize how hard it was going to be not having my kids around for the holidays.  Oh, and he is really tired of all the rain!  The flooded paths and having to walk to the buildings in the soaking rain gets old real fast!  So prayers for all the sailors struggling with their studies and also for the sun to come out!
