OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Okay I Have A Few Questions. My fiancé told us on the phone that he may have Liberty the weekend of Graduation but he doesn't know if he will be able to stay the night with us. Can anyone confirm whether or not he will be able to?

Jill, I agree! Although the waiting is rough I think seeing them PIR is going to be worth it! I'm really looking forward to it! I hope to make my travel plans soon!

As much as I would like to see my son as soon as I could, seeing him for the first time as a graduate is going to be magic. I can see why it was changed.

Yes, TXSnowWhite......but it is great to strain your eyes as the divisions march in to spot your new sailor, marching in formation....and once you see him/her, it is a great moment!  So look forward to that!  Be sure to ask your SR where they will be in the formation though.  We never spotted my son....had to wait for the PIR DVD to actually see him on there!  Didn't know to ask him ahead of time where he would be!

Well that's a bummer about not being able to see your Kiddo the night before PIR.

Congrats on the call, Hannah.  SO glad you got to talk to him.

My Fiancé called earlier. I miss Ed the first one and I went on break at work. I called his mother in tears asking if he called. She told me he did and that he was crying because I didn't answer. In the middle of our phone call,he called me. I was so happy to hear his voice. He said he missed me so much and that was the hardest part. He loves everythin about it. He said the food is amazing and his commander is awesome. I am so happy he loves it. 7 more Friday's till I get my hug!! Ship 11 Div 15

My apologies...I have not introduced myself.

I am a “veteran” mom. When I am on here my focus is mainly the PIR Groups and Boot Camp Mom's.

You can call me FTLW, it's easier :-)

My Sailor PIR’d in 05/2011. He is a Seabee Reservist. I am an AF (Security Forces) Reservist wife (29 years - now retired). I know …not Navy…but I am familiar with military life! We have been through two Deployments. Our son enlisted while Hubby was on his 2nd Deployment.. This site was a Godsend and helped me get through not only our sons BC experience but my husbands Deployment.

Welcome to your PIR Group!

No, I'm sorry they discontinued seeing your Sailor the night before PIR many years ago. The first time you will see your Sailors will be PIR day.

The Meet and Greet is for family, friends and loved ones to get together and connect before PIR. It's also a chance for everyone to see the faces you have gotten to know on here and other social media as well as new ones :-)
