OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Here you go, Jill:

Recruit Medical Yeoman (MYN) (RP02)

The MYN is responsible to RDCs for:

  1. Assisting the RDCs in preparing and maintaining recruit medical documentation.
  2. Coordinating appointments with the Medical Liaison.
  3. Tracking the status of all special physicals.
  4. Attending the medical/dental brief.

Got my first letter today! Seems like everything is going well, a lot of yelling, food is pretty good. He is a medical yeoman (will have to look that up). Best thing is he wrote separate letters to his dad and I (mine was longer!)

One happy mom got a letter today . He knew what to say to make me stop worrying about him.
Comment by Phoenix Mom on October 9, 2015 at 12:52pm

Bikerchica75 - I am sure he will at least call. You're his momma. of course he will :)

Debra Navy mom - I think it would be easier for him to get an account with Navy Federal.  It is there and you wouldn't have to worry about sending his debit card. It may get lost or stolen.

Comment by diannep on October 9, 2015 at 11:50am

Hannah:  He needs to clear that with his RDCs before you do.

DebraNavyMom:  They are allowed to have it, but I'm with you:  I would be afraid to send it.  He has his supply card for purchases (unless he opted not to take it....they pay for it out of their first pay, and I believe it is $100-$150).  I would rather send a prepaid credit card like you said.  Safer to me and should be accepted.
