N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

WhooPig:  Should add that what I meant by that is that many times, the SRs run out of minutes on the phone cards they purchase.  My son ran out in the middle of our phone call when he was up there....thankfully he was able to buy another one right there at the NEX and he called right back.

WhooPig:  She can use her supply card to purchase a phone card at the NEX.  So yes, she can call if she wants to....at least, not having a phone card shouldn't be the reason she doesn't call.  If she DOES call, ask her if she would like for you to send her a phone card now.  If she doesn't use it all, she can give it to another SR there who may have run out of minutes.

Yes, your 11 yr old and 9 yr old have to be on the guest list and are counted as part of the 4.  Only those under 3 yrs old don't have to be on the list.  It used to be that those 12 and under didn't have to be on the list, but that changed a couple of years ago.

**Just to note that I would be very surprised if any sailors will fly out on Thanksgiving Day.

Comment by diannep on October 10, 2015 at 4:21pm

BethM:  The only ones who will have the entire weekend with their sailors are those with sailors staying in GL for A School.  Those flying out most likely will fly out on Friday, but some may possibly not leave until Sat.

Just wondering, my SR refused to take a phone card with her to RTC (said that she didn't want to call home because it would be too hard on her to hear our voices), so will she still be able to call home?

Also, I have an 11 yo son & a 9 yo daughter.  Are they counted in the 4 guests?  I read somewhere that 12 & under are allowed with an adult, but I can't remember if it said that they count as part of the 4.

Thanks in advance!  This site is awesome!  :)

Thank you for the information on receiving phone calls with the 847 area code!  I will now answer when normally wouldn't! So you think they might get the entire weekend off after graduation?  I feel bad because we just booked our flight to fly home Thanksgiving day!

Comment by diannep on October 10, 2015 at 9:26am

Just to let you know that normally they are not allowed to leave messages when making a "security/need info" call.  So if you have a missed call from the 847 area code (or another Chicago area code....usually is 847 though)....and no message...it probably was a monitored "need" info call.  Your SR will call back again if info is still needed.  I got one of those when my son was up there.  No message....I was in a gym class and couldn't hear my phone....freaked when I saw the missed call and no message.  Googled the number when I got home and saw it was Medical at RTC.  Yikes.  Really worried then, but no more calls until 10 days later when he got a division call home.  I asked him why he didn't leave a message when he had called, and he said:  Needed medical info, wasn't allowed to leave a message and we figured it out anyway so I didn't need to talk to you anymore.   Sigh....was a rough 10 days until he finally called again!  The ups and downs of the Navy!

Once again, THANK YOU BIG TIME for the info. on calls....especially security calls, our son has an Aircrewman rate which requires security clearance.

Good Morning!

NavyDad:  As both CatMom and FTLW said, phone calls are so totally random.  SO you have to have your phone glued to you at all times....some calls can come very early in the morning for those on the West Coast, so heads up to those people.  You don't want to miss a call....they most likely can't call back, at least not at that time...so keep your phone with you even in the bathroom or when getting the mail.  Have someone "babysit" it if you can't be near it for just a moment!  I know, it is very confining, but so worth it when your SR is on the other end of that call!
