A very blessed Thanksgiving Day for our Nuke Family, and may God keep our sailors safe and happy all over.

Hi all - Happy Wednesday!  I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow.  I am thankful for so many things but I am especially thankful for all of my friends here on N4M's.  I hope you are lucky enough to hear from your sailor but if not, know that they are thinking of you <3  Hugs to all <3

COTwin, I see where you get your creativity. That journal page is awesome! Did you think about publishing them? There are a lot of history buffs that would love that.

Lilo, quite a career! I think any of you that had family in the Pacific theater are lucky they made it through. That was brutal.

There is a German U-boat on display in Chicago that you can tour. This u-boat was captured during WWII in the Atlantic and my uncle was on the ship that captured it. At his funeral I saw a picture of him standing by a couple German sailors after the capture.

PacNWmom - wow...glad your sailor is feeling better! We are flying to Charleston on thanksgiving day and I think I booked the same place you did because it's also super close to NNTCP and in the back of this guys house! So I'm glad to hear it was great!

My Dad WWII vet served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Wilson. He kept an awesome art journal all during the war.

Mark - Wow, your Dad was near Pearl Harbor during the war and worked with the aircraft.  Even though he wasn't on a ship, being at the airbases was very important and not without risk!   Glad he made it through the war to share his experiences.   I had requested my Dad's military records over a year ago and just recently received them.  My Dad started out as enlisted Coast Guard reserve and then went to the CG academy.  In 1943-44, he served as Commanding Officer on an 83 ft Coast Guard cutter in Florida (Miami and Key West).  In 1944-45 he was the Communication Officer and Senior O.D. (I don't know that that is) on the USS Mills (DE-383).  He did see action and patrolled areas in the North Atlantic while on the destroyer.   He made it through the war and lived to be 95 and shared many stories about the war.  Unfortunately, he passed away before he got to see my son become a sailor and I'm sure he'd be very proud of the journey through the nuke pipeline.  I'm hoping that maybe my son will channel his grandfather because his grandfather got a degree in electrical engineering!  We will see.
