For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Boot Camp June 2016
I was surprised when my son came home from the MEPS center with a bootcamp date 8 months away. We just assumed it would be a couple of months and off he would go. He is ready to go now! Proud of him and his decision and look forward to what the future holds.

My son signed at MEPS two weeks ago and got a BC date of May 2016. Recruiters were surprised he got something earlier than June. So I guess this is normal. Time to get in shape :)

Hi New2Navy, My son also has a tentative date of May 2015, just found out on Monday after he came home from MEPS, he wants to try and finish out the spring semester of college. It's a lot to take in and he has a lot to do

This will give him time to train. It also might give him some time for leadership in his dep group. My son went to meps in February and is leaving next week. He became the leader of his dep group and really enjoyed this.

FYI
Put time to good use with physical training and completing the DEP PQS.
If your Sailor-To-Be successfully completes the DEP GUIDE PQS (personal qualification standard), passes a written test at Recruit Training Command (RTC), and passes the PT-Baseline with a SAT-MED (satisfactory/medium) he will be advanced to E2 effective from his shipping out date. That's an extra $187 a month. No leadership involved.

Since he is going in as a Nuke, they told him he is already E-3. I assume there wouldn't be any additional advantage if he does as you say above. Of course, it is all a very excellent idea regardless!!

My son will be an E-3 as well but he enjoyed the leadership aspects of being a leader at his dep meetings and helping others along.

Also take time with him. It is a whole another thing when they tell you his date and it comes and he is gone

So true. I am glad he is DEP for so long. I feel like once he goes, and PIR is done, he will be gone and I won't know when I will see him again. Hard to believe. Still... he stays in his room alot so - LOL!

New2Navy I agree I'm glad he's DEP for so long and now he just told me it might not be till aug. I've been looking at all the info shared and reading all the stuff, it's a lot to take in and learn. He's been training everyday, plus going to college full time plus working 30 hrs, I want him to slow down but he's determined, I go from being o.k. to tearing up when I read some of the post on here.
