michiganredrose, we sometimes amaze our kids with our knowledge because thanks to technology, we can get a jump on things. Glad you have been finding the resources to help you with all that is to come.

Thanks for the welcome all. I should have clarified, my kid's dad is my ex-husband. Good guy, but very much not ready for a wife and kids way back then.

My son is going in AECF (same as his dad and I did) and he is leaving March 8th. He's excited and nervous, so I'm just trying to give him all the information I can without overwhelming him. Looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Good to hear from you, yvette. Hope all works out for your son. How nice that your sailor may come home for a visit!

Welcome Michiganredrose and thank you, your husband, and son for your service. How soon does your son head to boot camp.

I thoroughly enjoyed a visit to see my sailor and his family earlier this month. Sure hated to leave this little cutie behind!

Yvette - hopefully your son can get everything straightened out with his insurance and college, and your son gets to visit in December.
Since hs, Thomas worked full time all summer for a lawncare/snow removal sevice. He is taking prerequisite for transfer to a university in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Katie and her boyfriend are both DCs. They met at BC in Oct 2008. They started dating when she returned from deployment 11-15-14.

Yup always keep that phone handy. My son called me with an What am I allergic to? call.
And always remember, when you think you have a pretty good handle on things, they change, after all it's the Navy. I have been around for 4 years and I am still learning.
Welcome to all the newbies. Make sure you join your PIR group, they always have TONS of info.

Misn - there is no set time, it is generally a reward for a group accomplishment. Keep your phone with you at all times because it really sucks to miss that call.

Welcome michiganredrose!  Sounds wonderful!  Thank your husband for all his years of service, and for you serving yourself and now right along with your husband.  That is wonderful that your son will be joining as well.

Good morning fellow Michigan moms. My son is at MEPS in Lansing today getting ready to enlist in the Navy. He took his ASVAB yesterday (and did great) and is doing medical and everything else today. I was in the NAVY 20 years ago (did my processing in Lansing, strange how everything comes full circle) and his dad is still enlisted. He is a Senior Chief with 20 years in May, so luckily we know a lot of the information already, but it is definitely different being on the Mom side of it all.

Misn my bby, i cannot remember what hotel I stayed at but it was one recommended in the communication you will get about PIR (graduation). You will get that several weeks before the date and it should provide all the information you need. Your sailor recruit will be able to give 4 names for attendance to PIR. I recommend you and your son visit a lawyer before he leaves and get a POA so that you can take care of finances. If he is also willing to name a family member for medical POA that would be great. Should anything happen, you will be kept in the loop. Our kids don't always realize how important it is to do this because they think they're too young to think about such things. I have handled a number of financial transactions for my son, including car purchases (I recommend your son keep his Michigan license and register all his cars in Michigan no matter where the Navy sends him). Welcome aboard and good luck to your son. Get to know some other military moms for support and advice. It can be a hard journey for us too. Do you have other children?
