This Thanksgiving was a toughy for my family. We found out about a week or so ago that my ex-husband is diagnosed with ALS. My sailor is taking it very hard. His dad lives in Vegas so he drove to San Diego to spend Thanksgiving with my sailor's family. Last night I asked my son if he was feeling any better after having a great holiday with his dad and he said no, Dad is weak and frail and is going to die so no, not better. My girls are getting information, talking to each other, adjusting to the horrible news. My sailor is not. My 3 girls and I are pragmatic and talking helps. I'm at a loss about what to do with my son. They say Dad has 2-5 yrs left and my biggest fear is something will happen when my son is deployed in 2017. Prayers, please, from my Sea Sisters so I find the right words to say. Thanks so much for being there.

Oops, I may not have done that correctly.

B'sNukemom - that's a wonderful picture!  The times we have and have experienced need to hold us over for the times without them.  Mine would not stand still for a picture to be taken but I did get this with her daddy on the Yorktown.Yorktown%20-%20Copy.png

Here's our Thanksgiving picture this year.  4th one without our Sailor.  I was feeling a little sad but leave it to my college son to put things in perspective.  He reminded me "don't forget you've had the last 22 with him mom!".  Ok, point taken ;-)

Hi all - Happy Monday!  Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving ;-)

J's/S'smom - yay!  So glad you made contact with your sailor.  What a relief lol!  If only they (really) knew how much it means to us, right?!

Britefuture - love the picture - thanks for sharing!

Got a little Christmas shopping done over the weekend.  At least it's a start....

J's/S'smom - just saw your post that you got your call!  Glad it worked out for you!!!!  :)

J's/S'smom - Hope you got your call yesterday!  I sent a text to my son and he said he was on duty but he would call.  He called that afternoon.  He did not realize that it was a month since he talked to us last.  He apologized and said he was so busy with classes and 25 hours of extra study that he lost track of time!   I'm sure you son is doesn't mean to be non-communicative.  He probably is very busy and just doesn't realize how much time has gone by between contact.  Can you send him mail?  Maybe a note to him with a friendly reminder to phone home!

Ooops, forgot to add the picture. Lol

Good morning everyone. I love the the history stories about your WWII vets. The journal photo is neat. My grandfather was drafted also. He had just been picked up by a major league baseball team, I believe New York,  when he was drafted. He had part of his foot blown off, by what I'm not sure, and was sent home. He had no skills other than swinging a bat. Growing up, he would watch every baseball game that was televised and the house was always silent during the game. He was so sad. Anyway, after he died, we found his Purple Heart and letters that my grandmother had sent him. There weren't many but they were heart felt. I'll have to ask my Mom, again, which team he was to play for.

I was fortunate enough to have my son home for Turkey Day. He "let me" do his laundry the night before and I loved every minute of it. Darn those apron strings! Here is a picture of me and my babies. Lauren, on the left, myself, John and Joseph. This is the last time that all of my kids will be under the same roof for a while. I held it together until everyone was gone and I sat down for the first time. Then the tears just wouldn't stop. I would say that this is what empty nest feels like but I obviously still have one at home, lol. I couldn't be more proud though. This is what I've been working so hard on for 23 years. Watching my kids grow and flourish and live their lives with strength, passion and confidence is more than I could ask for.

Love to all ((((((N4M))))))))

Hi all! Happy Thanksgiving! I don't comment on here but I do read and keep up with everyone. Just wanted to say today I am so thankful for all of you! This journey as a new military mom would have been so much harder without you sharing your experience, words of wisdom and support. God bless our sailors and other military personnel, and thier families!
