Anna, yes my sailor to be will be on the cruise with us. She has 5 days when she returns so wants to do a family activity, 5 of the eight are in town. She has chosen to go to the gun range and then lunch so it will be a nice time.

Jaydee I can't imagine going so quickly and so early. it must have been very stressful for you and her. I agree, BC was the worst. At least now I talk to my daughter daily, skype and exchange photos. Christmas without her will be rough it has been for a few years. My dad died on Christmas eve and my mom's birthday was Christmas day.

rolismom and lilnavymom,

My heart aches for both of you.  The big holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas are really hard the first time when our loved ones are not at home with us.  I still have a hard time at Christmas because all of our kids are off and on their own.  I don't like empty nest.  But what I would tell you is that it's ok to have those feelings and yes, even tear up when you think of putting up decorations. It is a major change and it does make us sad.  Also know that you are not alone!!

hellraiser,

Happy your daughter is finally off restriction.  I like the Christmas tree.  Love those red strands on the white!!!

sarahsmom,

You must sometimes feel like when it rains it pours!!!!  Will the second daughter get to go on the cruise with you at least.  I know you will still be missing the sailor daughter who won't get to make it but now this will a special time to spend with the newest "sailor-to-be".  Try taking deep breaths now and again as you struggle to get it all done before she leaves.  If nothing else tell her to just sort her stuff - what to pack, what to get rid of (if any) and you can always do the packing after she's gone.  Sometimes you just can't do it all so find ways to put off less immediate things.

JayDee,

I agree - when we can finally call and/or text with them it does seem a little less severe that they are not with us.

Blondie,

Thank you for the info.  I have a pain in one specific place on my knee.  I'm sure it's just arthritis that was then aggravated by the injury - or maybe it caused the injury - I just don't know.  I would just like to get rid of that pain!!!!  It gets so bad that it makes it difficult to walk "normally".  Limping and favoring the other leg just makes that one hurt!!!!  Uggggg

Our newest son-in-law, David graduated from the Firefighting Academy in TX today.  He is now a DOD Firefighter.  Graduated with honors - top of his class.  He is also EMT certified.  I've never had a firefighter in the family before!!!!!!  He is on his way back home to Oklahoma as I type this!!!!!

Sarahsmom - I would imagine you're feeling a little lost - 8 kids to none.  My youngest enlisted in May and had a ship date of 12/7.  They called her on a Wednesday in August and asked her to go that night.  We were caught totally off guard to say the least.  I thought I was prepared for the December date, but when she left (and so quickly) I was totally lost.  It will get better, I promise.  I have adjusted to the new normal (I think) although I frequently find myself sitting there feeling lost and wondering where my daughter went.  Bootcamp was the worst for me but it's so nice now to get her texts and calls on a regular basis.  Enjoy the time you have with her - don't waste it and try to relax a little.  It's stressful but it's amazing how adaptable we are if we let ourselves be.  Hugs to you.

Good morning everyone. I am feeling stressed today and it helps to read everyone's posts. My daughter 18 year old enlisted in July. This was expected as she has said for years she wanted to join. But last month her 19 year old sister who was at the University here and had refused to go in with her younger sister decided to enlist. She was sworn in last week with the plan to go in March. Then on Monday she was offered a better Rate to go in January and she accepted. Now we are trying to get ready. We will be gone 3 weeks for the holidays so only have about 18 days while also trying to get ready for Christmas, our trip and many life events. We have 8 kids, these 2 are the youngest, so she is trying to say goodbye to everyone and spend some time with them as well as pack up her room (we are moving in March) and working out a lot to try and make BC easier. I am already a mess with one daughter gone. i cant imagine both my youngest away. We will now be empty nesters, I have had kids in the house for 36 years. I am so lost on what to do.

This is For the ones who are struggling with the Christmas season, like myself and family, Heres a little something we decided to do. We added a new Christmas tree! Decided we wanted to represent our baby girl with her own tree! We now have a 71/2 ft traditional, 6ft Dallas Cowboy memorial (for my BIL who passes in 2010 RIP) and now our 4ft US Navy Christmas Trees! It actually helps bring spirit in to our house! Maybe yall can do something similiar to help!

I just realized this will be the first time our daughter will not be here for Christmas, even when she was away at college she was here for Christmas. Guess this is Reality and life as we know it now, but I don't have to like it.

roliesmom, I feel the same.  My daughter is the youngest and now my husband asked about putting up decorations for Christmas and I just ignored him, because I didnt want to start tearing up.

Ahh the cold weather, as I sit in my van freezing waiting for my little one to finish with choir practice. As I struggled yesterday to decorate my house for Christmas and realized again how much my daughter used to help me was a little unbearable. It's not the same and that's a change I will have to get used to. And as I packed a box with her Christmas gift and extra goodies, with the thoughts of "why didn't I get a bigger box" runs through my head. I just can't keep thinking about when the holidays are over and how much better it will be. Sorry to ramble but I miss her. :(
