While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Reasons to wait on The Form Letter before sending letters:
1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.html.
2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.
3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.

Note: If it has been at least 2 calendar weeks since your recruit arrived at the RTC and you do not have a form letter, then you can call the recruiter and get the address and mail letters to your recruit, but be sure to double-check the address against those at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.html or Ship/Division--How it Works.

Navymomof2, your recruit may be in an integrated division. They seem to take longer to fill and the recruits have more P-Hold days than all male divisions. Or, it is just taking longer this time. Your Sailor was in one of the first two regular divisions in his TG and your recruit is not. Ten days after arrival is still the average time to receive The Form Letter, meaning that some will have it before ten days and some after; most have it by two calendar weeks after the recruit's arrival at the RTC, which is why it is fine to get the address from the recruiter if it has been at least 2 weeks since the recruit arrived and no one has received The Form Letter.

Does anyone know the "rush hour(s)" in Chicago? I'm trying to avoid it when we go to PIR weekend. I don't want to be late to Sarge's meet and greet.

I wonder what's the holdup on the form letters? My other son left for boot camp the week of Thanksgiving and by his 8th day at Great Lakes I had received both his box and his form letter. It seems as though there is a delay or something. And to add to that, I'm extremely impatient! The waiting and not knowing is getting to me.

PIR: 02/26/2016 TG 16 - 6 Divisions (103-106, 915 and 916) 4 guests
PIR: 03/04/2016 TG 17 - 9 Divisions (107-114 and 917) 4 guests
PIR: 03/11/2016 TG 18 - 7 Divisions (115-120 and 918) 4 guests
PIR: 03/18/2016 TG 19 - 10 Divisions (121-128, 808, and 919) 4 guests

I have let ellen and FTLW know that form letters have been received for the 03/25/2016 PIR date. If you have a recruit in that TG, keep checking PIR 03/25/2016 TG 20 and join when it is up.

FYI: For those graduating on 3/11 Dowtown Chicago will hold their annual St. Patricks day parade and river dying on Saturday the 12th.
