Hi ladies! I have seen a bit of discussion about this topic on here, but didn't find anything recent and I would love some advice. My sailor is in A school right now, and will be getting orders for C school or additional training within the next month or so. While we both really would like a traditional wedding ceremony and reception, we both just don't see it happening because there won't be a good time and it will be nearly impossible to plan. We'd love to wait until we can have a wedding, but of course we want to be married before his training is complete so that I could move with him to his permanent duty station. We have talked a lot about getting married at the courthouse here after his A school is complete, and then having a ceremony and reception in one year (if he is even able to, we might have to wait for that too). But sometimes I feel a little silly having a ceremony or even a vow renewal that mimics a ceremony... but him and I both really love the idea of a ceremony, having bridesmaids and groomsmen, etc. Any of you who have been in a similar situation, what have you done? Any and all advice and experience is appreciated!!

My son said at his A school they avoided giving overseas orders to sailors who were already married when verbal orders were issued, still needs of the Navy, but it did seem to make a difference ( as in no one who was already married was sent overseas but LOTS of single sailors were).

That was nice since as Anti M mentioned above those would have been unaccompanied orders.

Oh that is great! Hopefully he won't be going overseas for a little while, but that is very nice to know. Thank you!
Bronco14, have you look at Pinterest and how to make a courthouse wedding more 'special?'

Rather the just the standard courthouse make it more specialized in case a larger ceremony just doesn't work out.

I hadn't, thanks for the advice!

I have to tell you me and my husband did just that we got married in a court house and we are having our real wedding later this year with the reception to follow. I think that was the best way as it makes it leagal and you can still have your nice church wedding later. as long as your happy thats all that matters.

Oh yay! Thanks so much. I've really come to terms and actually favor the idea of doing it this way. I'm looking forward to the intimacy of the courthouse ceremony and a big party when we can. I'm glad to hear it is working for you and so many others!! Good luck to you and thanks so much for sharing your experience.

Thank you. hope it all works out for you. Just do what makes you two happy thats all that matters
