Yes, JayDee, the Villas are popular. I was glad I got in. At any rate, Charleston is well equipped for visitors what with the training command there.

NancyJo - my daughter has looked into the villas for me and has been told that they can only be booked 90 days in advance.  I'm planning for an October trip so I've booked a hotel room that I can cancel just in case a villa is not available.  Have found that hotel rooms can go up in price especially if there's a graduation that weekend.

When visiting your sailors, I always want to mention the Villas which is right on base. They are nice houses right on base in various sizes. They have a kitchen, living room, dining room, bedrooms, and we have a cookout when we stayed for PS grad. Your sailor has to make the reservation but we found it super convenient. The one thing is on a grad weekend they book quick.

JayDee,  KAM, CO-Twin, Donna thank you all for the great information. I am very excited to see my son.  Charleston looks like a great place to visit too!

If you receive a friend request from a Sophy Rogers, please delete it. This is not a real person, and they are contacting Navy families.

Make sure you get to Patriots Point where there is an aircraft carrier to tour and may be several other ships.  Come down route 26 and go over the bridge toward Mt. Pleasant....you can also google it for directions and more information.

My son has two favorite beaches. Folly and Isle of the Palms.  Patriots point is fun also, if your sailor goes in uniform you wither get in free or get a discount I don't remember. The city itself is beautiful, lots of good eats and shopping. Ice cream shop on Kings St. got a write up in Bon Appetite. Went to a great Tapas bar. Try the She Crab Soup, I got it at a place by the museum over the water. Got a super cute jumper with anchors on it at a boutique called Simply J.

Here is the little mother in law cottage I booked for the whole week. It was nice, yard w/ BBQ in a neighborhood 9 min. from base.

Maria, we stayed at the Hyatt near the airport.  It's about in the middle of Charleston and the base.  They have a shuttle that will take you to a bus that takes you downtown to the free troll that runs all over Charleston.  The traffic is very congested in Charleston and the streets are very narrow.  I wouldn't want to drive down there if I didn't have too.  We really enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt and will stay there again on another visit.

Comment by JayDee659 on April 30, 2016 at 8:21pm
Maria do you mean water downtown? There's lots to do in Charleston itself. The beaches are nice, my daughter prefers Folly Beach. Its all how you want to deal with the traffic.
