Oh sorry abuon I always get confused betwen rate and rank :) He is a corpsman. He has orders for the naval hospital right now but there is a possibility he will get orders to be able to train on the green side rather than the blue side. If that's the case, that's where all this extra training would come in.

I know my place has a military clause and it requires a 30 day notice. I will look more specifically at them and see because the last place we were at required the orders to be PCS, not TDY. But I'm not sure if that's the case with these ones :)

My landlord is a military spouse as well so I am hoping she will understand and we can make something work. Thank you so much for your help!!

Also - read the military clause carefully. They often have different rules for breaking a lease then the normal terms. I.e. you might have to notify them 60 days in advance instead of 30, you might have to pay the next month's rent depending on when in the month you give them notice....

Bronco, I'm sorry I meant his rate, what job he is training for, not his rank. Sorry for the confusion!

You will have to check your lease to make sure that you have a military clause in there. Orders for training will count - it doesn't have to be a PCS move, there are lots of reasons that military families may decide they have to break a lease. Orders for training in a different location, deployments, those are all valid. If your lease does not have a military clause though then you might be stuck. If you're unsure, make an appointment with legal on base-they review your lease for free and will advise you. Bring his orders for school and your lease.

He is an E3. It would be easy to move to where his school is because I could just live with my family in the area of his schooling. It wouldn't bother me that he couldn't live with me, we are used to that already because of the training he has been through. My only concern with that is we have an apartment here at our current duty station, that we signed a year lease to. I am under the impression that the only way we could terminate our lease under the military clause is if his orders are for a PCS...

I should add, while he is school, you'll receive BAH for where ever you are living.
Comment by abuon18 on May 4, 2016 at 6:44am
Hi Bronco, what rate is he?
As you know each school is its own set of orders so if they do not individually meet the length requirement the Navy won't pay to move you. So to answer your question, you do not have you stay where you are now, you are free to move where ever you want but the Navy will not pay for it. If you choose to follow your husband, he may not be allowed to live with you.

Help please! This might be too tricky of a question but I'm wondering if any of you have experience with something like this. My husband may have a lot more training ahead of him, consisting of a few different schools that do not add up to 20 weeks on their own and therefore don't qualify as a PCS. However, after all these short trainings, he would have a permanent duty station that is NOT our current duty station. Since I don't qualify for a PCS until then will I have to stay at our current duty station the whole time he is away?

Hope that wasn't too confusing, I know it might be a long shot but I thought I'd ask here!

Oh great advice thank you!! I'll make sure we do that. Thanks a bunch!!

Before you decide to buy, check for tax rates and such in both areas. Get your loan through NFCU or USAA. Many shady dealers looking for sailors out there.

That's what we're thinking. Actually hubby doesn't have his own vehicle yet, so I'm going to try and convince him to hold off on getting one until we find out if we are leaving or not. :) But if he gets one it'll be a truck that can tow my little car.
