Maria - Michigan mom, we stayed at the same VRBO Co-Twins mom recommended and we loved it! Close to airport and base! Owner was super nice and accommodating! Great experience and was able to make breakfast for my sailor every morning we were there! ❤️

NancyJo - back in the early 1900's my Great Aunt owned the only Bed & Breakfast at St. Ignace (I'm sure there are more now).  We always cross the bridge and take the the St. Ignace ferry out to Mac.  Love the bridge on a calm day.

A family trip to the UP was a highlight of the kids growing up. They still remember some dive hotel called the Bambi Hotel that we stayed at. I personally remember the trauma of crossing the Mackinac Island bridge. I hate bridges anyway but that was a windy day and totally freaked me out. Anyway, so beautiful. MI is a fond memory us.

Michiana, my sailor did 2 yrs staff at BS too. He loved his time there WAY more than he is loving life on the ship. Too many separations from the family, even when not deployed. He is currently on an underway that will last about 3 wks. They'll be deployed again early in 2017.

Maria, we'll do it.  My sailors recruiter told her to make a bucket list of things she wanted to do before she left for BC.  Michigan visit was #1 on her list so we spent a week last summer doing "Michigan" things.  She got chicken at Zenders, and visited the Detroit Zoo, Great Lakes Crossing and Kensington Park and ate at Tony Packo's (yeah I know, it's in Toledo).  The only thing we didn't get to do was Mackinac Island due to time.  Even my kids recognize Michigan as the mother land.

Michiana Mom, I am very familiar with all of those cities & the UP as well!  Very pretty in the UP. :)

JayDee, I am about 15 minutes from Milford.  I live in West Bloomfield on the border of Commerce Township so I am very close to Milford and Highland.  Maybe we can meet when you are back in MI for a visit if you have time.

Maria - I was born in Detroit and raised in Milford but now live in Southern Indiana.  Am home frequently to visit friends and relatives in Davisburg and Highland and attend RedWings games as frequently as possible.  Michigan is still home to us.

Maria I have relatives in Armada & Washington Township and friends from school in Livonia & Brighton - all around you.  I grew up in the UP

Michiana Mom, I am from Oakland County.  I've been to the west side of MI many times. Very beautiful part of the state.

JayDee, what part of Oakland County to you live in?

NancyJo, I am from the east side of MI.  The west part of the state is about 2 1/2 hours from me

Comment by MichianaMom on May 3, 2016 at 7:53pm

Maria - Yes! I am from SW Michigan, about 2 miles from the Indiana boarder, just north of Elkhart, IN. Michiana is what they call the area around here = Michigan + Indiana. Seems to me there are a few of us on here from Michigan.  My son is currently staff pick up at BS.  Nancy Jo I have been to St. Joe - Silver Beach, and have an acquaintance from the kid's school days who's husband works in the plant in Bridgeman. (or at least he did).  I've been up the Red Arrow Highway hunting for antiques a few times.  Small world indeed!
