Hi everyone.  I am so glad that the recruiter provided me with this resource.  I am feeling many mixed emotions and my daughter just signed up to take her test in February.  The plan is for her to ship out in the fall.  I have tons of questions from reading this site.  What is PIR?  Is there a spot that Navy boot camp graduations are generally held?  Just trying to strike up a conversation and meet some moms in similar situations.  Any information or suggestions are appreciated.  I look forward to chatting soon. Thanks!

MegsMom2016 - Have fun on your emotional journey.  I didn't think boot camp would stress me out, but it did....My advice to your daughter is to study for her test so she has job choices and to work out ahead of time so she's able to pass the fitness test first try and isn't stressed.  There were many in my daughters Division that were taking the test at the last minute and then battle stations not with her own unit because they had to get thrown in with others that hadn't passed the PT.  Send her in fit and that's half the battle. If she has delayed entry, have her start going to her recruiting office as part of the DEP pool (delayed entry) to workout with them and learn (might be mandatory?).  That TOTALLY SAVED my daughter, that and signing up for 3 months of cross fit.  She was glad she went in fit because getting used the the Navy's schedule and surprise inspections/learning the Navy ways she said was enough stress and being really fit in the running, pushups, sit-ups made things so much easier than struggling.  She said she had recruits that had to call home and say "not sure yet if you should come to Graduation (PIR).  So that's my single piece of advice....go in mentally and physically ready to "put up" with boot camp so she owns it !

oh, and have her watch videos so she knows what she's dealing with :-)

Hey MegsMom2016!

Its been 4 months since you last posted anything. Are you still with us? Is your daughter's enlistment still on track?

Welcome Megsmom,

It is so nice to have another mom join the group.   PIR is Pass and Review....Yes this is when your daughter will graduate from GL.   Graduation will be held on Base.  You will get invites to attend.  The day before you will have HI Mom.  This is a meet and greet.   I understand about striking up a conversation.  it does it very quiet.
My daughter is a office in the Navy and stationed at 32 base in San Diego.  She her title is SWO/EDO.

If you need help I live 5 miles from GL.

Hello MegsMom2016

My daughter took her test back in March'16 and took the oath in April'16. She then received the date of headed to boot camp on Dec13,2016. So when that date was given to us, I thought OMG a few months after her High School Grad date! Well here it is 3 days before she is leaving us for a great adventure of a lifetime and so many great things ahead of her. Her best friend went in Nov 21st. This is the best site that I just so happened to stumble on back in May. Good Luck and if I can be of any help in the future let me know. Great information are shared in all these groups!

MelissaJPA,

You need to share your story and join us on the group page.  Our moms would love to share your journey as your daughter heads off for this awesome adventure!!!  Fair winds and following seas to your daughter!!!!

Hi Megsmom 2016, I will try and help you as much as possible. My daughter is now in her 3rd wk of boot camp and it is really hard. PIR is call Pass In Review and that it part of her graduation. The graduations are held at the base their at Great Lakes. Once your daughter is cleared to leave for boot camp in about 10 days you will get a letter that tells you her mailing address. There is no phone access for you to call her you just have to wait for the letter to arrive. We just got our first call from my daughter and it was hard. She is home sick but I think she will do fine. I would suggest that you apply to become a member of N4Ms. Even if you aren't approved quickly you can read all the information about the different areas. This is a great way to get information. Go Luck!
