My son doesn't know the date of his graduation. Ugh. He told me 15th. I started planning. He said he thinks its the 8th. I have no idea.

KKristen,

Your son will love Hawaii...hopefully! We were stationed there twice...the second time my husband was the Chaplain for several of the subs. In the meantime, if he wants a place to hang out, eat, play board games etc, we open our home on the weekends and invite the sailors to come over. We are in Virginia Beach, so not very far. Please let him know. :)

You can check us out on our page on this site.

Hello fellow sub Moms! My son is still in Newsport News waiting for his boat to get out to sea.....supposed to be going to Hawaii. I hope his boat will be completed soon ... cuz he's going stir crazy being in an office every day. LOL

BTW, my son's SECF class had a few females going to missile boats. Amazing ladies. All these young people are pretty spectacular. But there are some sub moms and dads who are proud of their submariner daughters. If/when N4M recovers from the ning pricing debacle, we may meet some of them here.

That sounds about right. My son is on leave following A-school graduation and we will (too) soon be seeing him off to Hawaii. He was entitled to 14 days + travel days, and they adjusted his orders to make sure he got it. A few weeks before graduation, they get a list of available ports and number of billets in each port. They get to choose in order according to their class rank.
Note that married junior enlisted sailors are not going to get accompanied orders to Hawaii or Guam, so would be choosing stateside ports.

Thank all of you so much!!!  I bet you can guess where his first choice is???   Yep, Hawaii!!!   He has a friend that he grew up with that is stationed there also, so that would be even better!   I really hope that he gets Hawaii like he wants.  Of course just want him to be happy wherever he is!  Thanks again ladies, I will try to stay in touch with everyone a little better.  Will also tell my son to study, study, study so he has a better chance (this is something I had not heard before).  And something that he has had problems with in the past but the Navy has changed him in so many ways!   I heard something a few months ago when he was in BESS that I thought I would never hear coming from him,  I was on the phone with him and he said "Mom, I have to go, I have to study"!!!   All the years of schooling and my begging him to study harder!!   Love the Navy!!!!  :)    Thanks again ya'll and hope you each have a great day!!!

Hi, Amy. My son went through Groton last Spring, started in January and ended in May. He had about 2 weeks before having to report to his sub in Hawaii and has now been there a little over a year. He told me his "soft" orders a few weeks before he got his final ones, but said that the soft orders were almost always where they ended up. Said that they requested where they were to be assigned and were placed according to how well they did in classes. Hope this helps!

Good morning Amy L. My son is a sonar tech! He's been in over 4 years and just reenlisted for 6 more and is stationed in Hawaii. If I remember correctly and one of the other ladies will correct me if not, your son should receive his orders a few weeks before he actually finishes A school. He will actually at some point prior to that give his top three choices of where he'd like to be stationed or a least that's how it went for my son. Now of course they'll send him where's he's needed but sometimes they get there top choice like my son did. Good luck!!

Hi Amy - My son too is sonar - STS (Sonar Tech Sub). He found out a few weeks before graduating A school where he was to be stationed. If he does well in A school he stands a better chance of getting one of his choices! Hope that helps.

Hello everyone!   Haven't posted much on here but are following all and love reading all of your post!   My son is still in Groton CT, just started his A-School.  He is going to be a Sonar Tech (I always forget the "code" for that??), I still can't keep it all straight!   My son is in his 3rd week in A-School, he has completed the BESS and the Techno.  I have tried to find out from him but of course he tells me he doesn't know.  But I was wanting to know after they complete the BESS, Techno and the A-School how long before they are assigned to a sub??  Or another base??   I just have gotten use to being able to talk to him and feel like he is "safe" at Groton.  Just not looking forward to the change, but know it's coming!   Thanks everyone!
