Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

My MA son graduated on 4 October. We drove straight through 18 hours. Wish this site was up then. I needed the encouragement. There was a HUGE ordeal the weekend before graduation and a good 1/4 of the class got captains mast. A few were discharged and others were demoted and lost pay and on probation. Graduation was supposed to start at 9 am but because the chief was still dealing with the issue and wanted further investigation we were held up for SIX hours. They told us to go sightseeing or to breakfast or something. They would make sure our sailors got a hold of us in enough time to come back when and if (yes there was an if) they decided to have a graduation that day. Luckily after six hours the ceremony started and was very emotional and we loved it. Wouldn't have missed it for the world. Had 18 hours in the car with my sailor and didn't have to share him with his friends like I did when he got home. It sure was interesting but he left this morning for Japan and I'm glad I had the time I did with him.

Tuna2007, yes, your suggestion is good and does not violate OPSEC. It is good for the Sailor to let them know at the Visitor Center what dates the guest/s will be accessing the base. If the Sailor meets the guest/s at the Visitor's Center the day or evening before graduation, then the pass can be changed if it does not include the day before as well as the day of graduation. It is best to get the gate pass the day before graduation so that you do not have any delays on the date of graduation., especially if graduation is on a Friday since the Air Force graduation is on Friday and there may also be "C" School graduations.

My daughter graduated at the beginning of May 2016.  They said it was the largest class they have had.  60 in, 60 grad.  The whole ceremony for that many took just over an hour, including the pinning.  The pinning is not done on stage, but within the area of seating.  Once they receive their pins and return to their seats they will be allowed a few minutes to go to their families or other sailors to be pinned and get pictures (its sort of a free for all).  Our families live within 3-4 hour drive so we had a large group there for her.  We divided the pinning between her husband, her dad and me (3 pins on the badge, 1 each :) ).  I really enjoyed the ceremony.  It was up close and more personal than PIR graduation.

We were able to take pictures and videos of another sailor whose family was not able to attend so that he could send back to his family.

lemonelephant?  If I would offer any suggestions (and I'm not sure this is allowed...) when your sailor turns in his visitor/guest list, have them list the date as the day prior to graduation.  When you go to the visitor center for your pass, you are only allowed entry on the dates listed on your sailors guest list. If you are on the list (including) for the day before, you can get your pass on that date.  It took 2 hours to get through visitor registration (very stressful waiting with no contact with our sailor).  Our MAA ceremony was held up 45 minutes.  We made it "just" in time but many families came in behind us.  Remember the visitor center are registering Airforce grad's families too.

Also, after graduation, they will be gathering to march back to their barracks.  You can follow with them to video that too!  If you can make it, I believe you will enjoy it and so will your sailor.  We also went to lunch after they were released with about 8 of her classmates.  It was nice to get to meet the people we had been hearing about and also give them a bit of family too.

It is a short ceremony where they get their badge pinned on by a person of their choice (which is a bit of a good moment). My ex went and then drove my son back here to Oklahoma. It was nice that they were able to spend the drive time together. Other than that, they leave almost immediately to head home and to see you. But make sure they get a pic of the badge pinning! They won't know it now, but it will mean something to them later :)

My son received this award but it also came with a condition of enlisting for an additional year. It is worth the extra year to get the jumpstart on moving up but they only give it to the highest scores. I think there were only 2 of them that got it in his group. Good luck!

Hi Marissa-- There is something called the "Distinguished Graduate" recipient when they graduate A school. This recipient will automatically be promoted to E4 within 10 months of entering the fleet as part of the reward process but they must basically place in the top 3%of the graduating class; a 90% would certainly not make that cut. Hope this helps.

My son says that if he graduates with over a 90% score he can make E-4 in 10 months. Can anyone comment on this? Thank you.

Two. It is somewhat like a college dorm.
