Hi all - Happy Thursday!

CoTwin - wow sounds awesome!  I'm sure they are happy to have you there ;-)  Love it when things are busy and the day goes fast.

Pooh'sMom - I posted a discussion on the right "A Sailor's Perspective of Proto from 2009".  Take a look at that.  It gives a pretty good description of life in proto!

I had to take my mom to the ER Tuesday night - luckily we only spent about 5 hours there and they got everything under control.  Just going to take some time to recover from her surgery :(

Hope everyone is doing well....

Hi y'all. It had been a busy few weeks. I started my new job last week so this is week two. I am settling in I think. Lots of nice people to work with. It is fast paced and busy. Like that, days go fast. There are about 5 on staff and lots of volunteers. It is a non profit that supplies lunch to seniors and others in need. We serve about 150 to 200 lunches a day. It is farm to table which means our produce comes from a local organic farm. All the meat is grass fed and organic donated from 4H. Then we are part of a food share program and get all kinds of other things. All the dairy is organic. So we are feeding needy with totally healthy meals. I am the lead chef there. There is a lead cook for cold entries and I am in charge of hot main dish, hot veggies and deserts. I work 7-1 or 2 five days a week! Weekends and holidays off. I made Tiramisu, Stir fried greens, and fried eggplant for 160 today. I got off and mowed both my front yard and back. took a walk, made cheese bread and my chicken dinner.  Busy days.

Just a question about Prototype.  How much free time do they have during this part of the program?

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!  I got my mom home from the hospital last night and she's doing better.  She was supposed to come home on Saturday but she wasn't quite feeling it so they kept her extra days.

Got to talk to sailor son yesterday - it was his first day of college.  Chemistry and calculus - what a way to begin! He sounded good and was feeling positive about school :)

SuperNova - ditto to what everyone says about A school graduation.  They also encourage you to step up & take pictures as they walk across the stage.  You'll definitely enjoy it!

KAM Mom - the remodeling sounds like it's coming along well!

Alison - my son really liked BS.  There's lots to see & do around there - love the downtown district!  We visited twice & really had a good time.

Maria - enjoy your visit with your son!

"A" school graduation is very nice but not very formal....rather low key compared to boot camp and even Power School.  What I enjoyed was just seeing the building and grounds where our sailor live and learn.  It is a time to be proud of each accomplishment.  Our sailor is just now beginning Proto there in GC.  At least he had to report in, but as for when classes actually begin we have no idea.  He does enjoy the structure and is learning to "put up" with all the waiting.  Enjoy the ride.

SuperNova we attended our daughters A School graduation back in February and it was very nice.  It's a small ceremony and we got a chance to talk to the instructors.  The day she graduated there was also a Power School graduation and even though that didn't start until later in the morning parents were arriving the same time we were and it was packed.  My advice is get there early as you can to avoid parking pile up.  You just have to show your license at the gate so it's not as crazy as getting into Great Lakes.

Have a great time with your sailor!

Good morning, ladies.  I will be at A School graduation on Friday.  I'm so excited to see my son!  Has anyone gone to A School graduation before?  If yes, do you have any tips or information to share?  Thank you.  Have a great day!

Hi Moms,  Was anyone at A School graduation this past Thursday the 18th? My son just finished A School (ET)  We did not attend the ceremony, however I was wondering if anyone in this group was there and had any pictures they could share with me.  We are very happy to have our son home with us for ten days.  Enjoying every minute!!

Happy Sunday Nuke Moms!

We just finished moving our sailor and roommate into base housing at BS. They are really happy with the townhouse style set up and have a nice little patio and grassy back yard. The only questionable thing is that they are required to have a washer dryer and can pay $250 plus $90 a month to rent one through management. I went ahead and bought a set at the nearby Sears for them that comes out to less than renting a set. There is also a Home Depot quite close that had a better online appliance price. They were both happy that things were closer than in GC, there is a cute downtown district with restaurants, and a few local grocery stores, Target etc. Of course the best thing is that it's just under 3 hours away from us :) Happy to try and answer any questions or check things out for anyone who needs info!
