Hello IJ moms!!!  Heads at Ease is mailing to your child's ship once again.  We did it 3 years ago but 1 of the HAE crew has a sailor onboard so we are mailing again.

We have mailed 4 waves so far and we are staring #5 tomorrow.  If any of you sew and would like to be involved we want your help!

Don't sew??  We can use fabric, $ for fabric and $ for shipping.  Thanks!

Hi! I can't help but noticing that the last comment is dated March 19, 2017. I left a comment on the Ombudsman & FRG group discussion forum, but no reply has come...only crickets and tumbleweeds! IS ANYBODY OUT THERE? Am I doing something wrong or is this still a valid group for the USS Iwo Jima? My son just deployed on Feb. 7, 2018, and I was hoping to have interaction with other moms who have experienced this before, especially for some helpful hints on mail and sending packages, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!  ---Sandra

Bravo Zulu to the iwo!

MAYPORT, Fla. (NNS) -- Amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) was named a recipient of the Battle Effectiveness Award (Battle "E") for the second consecutive year.

The official notification for 2016 came from Commander, Naval Surface Forces, Vice Adm. Thomas Rowden, March 14.

The award is given annually to ships throughout the Navy which sustain a superior performance throughout the year via a consistent exhibition of excellence in wartime capabilities and optimal mission readiness within their respective hull class and region.

Thanks Marcy for the info on Navy Reserve.  I will join their FaceBook page to gather more info.  If you can think of any other place to gather more data, please let me know.

I also want to stay on Navy4Moms.  Do I have to post to each one of the groups I belong to or will this one post keep me in all my groups?

Welcome SC_girlfriend, and congratulations on his new assignment!  Here's the thing about Navy life - you have to learn about Naval Operations Security, aka OPSEC.  Deployment plans and dates are not to be discussed anywhere on social media.  Your sailor will be your best source of information.  Do take a moment and read the OPSEC guidelines, they are at the top of the list above under "Discussion Forum."

Just for fun, you can watch a quick video of a day in the life of an LHD at this link:  Reveille to Taps aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD 3).
