Lizzylou191, I'm not sure how many people are still active on this group as the last comment appears to be from 10/4/15.  I saw your comment come through on my email.  The best thing is to join the Facebook group Sampson Family Ombudsman.   It's a closed group so you will need to request to join.  She will ask you many necessary questions in order to approve you (for protection purposes).  Welcome to the Sampson family!  My Sailor has been on for about  2 1/2 years.

My hubs is on the Sampson. Reports for the first time in about 2 weeks. I know it's a quiet/old group but I figured I'd post!

Yes, definitely don't give your sailors name.  The ombudsman is the best way to go for security purposes.  Thank you for that reminder IDCmom#1.  We do hear from our sailor but as IDCmom#1 said, they often go on silent communication for security purposes.

monniepennie,  my ex-daughter-in-law was on the Sampson until this past summer.  I did correspond with her when the ship was deployed and received email through both her military and personal emails.  There were times when they were "rivercity" and communications would be completely out for a short period of time.

There is a ship's ombudsman (used to be a wife of one of the sailors) and they also have a Facebook page.  If you do not know the name of the ombudsman, perhaps kaymarie does or can get it from her son.  The ombudsman will get information for you about your child as long as you are who you say you are.

Do not give your son's name in a message like this.  Become friends with kaymarie if you want to do that.

If you cannot find out the ombudsman's name and kaymarie is unable to help, I could contact my former daughter-in-law and see if she can get it.  She was in the position on the ship that she would still have contacts.

Just looked up fleet and family services.  You can call them on Monday and they will be able to give you the name and number for the Sampson ombudsman.  This person is your link with the ship and is probably your absolute best source to find out information about your child.

Yes please. Have you talked to your sailor

Awww, I'm so sorry!  Is this his first deployment?  If so, most likely he's doing something called "cranking" which is actually KP duty, for 90 days.  They work in the galley, garbage stuff, etc. and every sailor has to do it on their first deployment.  Our son has 5 days left and is so glad to be done with it.  When they do that, they also do some of their regular duties so it makes for very long days.  If they have down time, they may be sleeping or studying for an advancement exam.  One thing our sailor told us is to be sure to send emails to his Navy email address instead of his personal email address.  When they are at sea, they usually get the government emails but not the personal.  If you want, I can send my sailor an email and ask if he knows your sailor and ask him to contact you.  Our sailor did say that the sailors all get along pretty well and everyone is doing good.  I hope that helps!
