When did you hear from your sailor?

Hi, my sailor left Norfolk a week ago for the Nitze, and while I was hoping that I'd hear that he got to the ship safely... looks like that's not the way it's done. I'm assuming no news is good news,…Continue

My sailor arrived in Norfolk earlier this month, was supposed to be flown out to the Nitze but was handed orders to do a two week refresher course instead. She was also told that the deployment was extended to Sep, but nothing I've seen anywhere else says that. She hasn't heard anything back yet on when she'll be flown out, but I mean if it's coming back mid July, is there a point?

Hello to everyone I would like to know if there is a way to confirm the date of the ships arrival in Norfolk. I have made plans based on the hints my sailor has sent me but i am afraid the day may be wrong. They posted today a family day on 7/13. Is this a function that takes place after the ship is in port. I am so new to this and do not want to miss the homecoming.

To those of you who asked, no there is not a lot of activity on this page. I have gotten so I only check every couple of months or so because of the lack of activity. I would love to talk to more moms but it is very slow here. Will check back here is a week or so.

My son is joining the USS Nitze. Hid ship was just decommissioned April 4 - the USS DeWert from Mayport Florida. Tonight is his first night in Norfolk. He will be joining the USS Nitze soon.

Yes, that's the official page, but, once your Sailor gets to the Nitze, you can be placed on the FRG & Ombudsman's list and added to their private pages. Once the ship is back in home port, some stay on the ship, others live in the barracks or get apartments. Some are military housing, some not. My son has a non-military apt. off base in VA Beach. Once this deployment's over, the ship will be in the yards for awhile. Not going out again for awhile.

Oh I'll have to look on FB, I saw a Nitze page, but it looked more formal, not like a moms thing.  Is there something else?

My daughter's ops school got postponed as of yesterday, so not sure if April will still be her date, or if it will be later.  How does your son like being at sea?  :)  My daughter loves the Navy so far, but she's basically living in a dorm in San Diego, with lots of free time, who wouldn't love that?  She's not living life on a ship yet.  lol.   Do they live on the ship when it's at home port, too, or on base somewhere?  How long was it at home before he left again?

Hi, Sharia,

I just popped back on after several months of not being here. Most of us are on fb. But, if you have any questions, I'll try to answer them to the best of my knowledge. My son's on the Nitze, on 2nd deployment.
