Hey all! My son is currently deployed on the USS RUSSELL DDG59. I’m hoping to connect with others that have sailors on this ship.

Try contacting the ombudsman for the ship. She can help you.

Hello, I have a on on board.  I also joined the Facebook page.  He's only been on the ship since November and somehow managed to get his photo on the website 4 times already.  It's so great that they post so many photos there.

wahoo - I talked to my son this morning . . . he loves this ship and his shipmates. Everything is going good and did you all see the CNN report on them helping an injured fisherman.

Happy new year russell moms!!

Hello all! My son is currently deployed on the USS Russell. It's his 1st deployment and I'm a nervous wreck. He seems to be handling it well though. I have heard from him a couple times. Would also like to share a press release I just read on line. I thought this was exciting!

U.S.S. Russell to Visit Gan, Maldives September 28-30, 2011

September 27, 2011

U.S.S. Russell (DDG 100), a U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, will conduct a port call in Gan, September 28-30, 2011. The visit is a routine port visit and is intended to provide the Sailors of the U.S.S. Russell an opportunity for engagement with their Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) counterparts and for cultural exchange.

This U.S. Navy port visit promotes peace and stability in the Western Pacific region, demonstrates the U.S. commitment to regional partners such as the Maldives, and fosters a growing relationship.  This strong relationship between the United States and the Maldives helps advance many common interests including mutual security, prosperity and the promotion of freedom.

During the port call, the crew will spend time ashore learning about the people and culture of the Maldives.  The crew will share high tea with local Gan high school students and MNDF personnel will also participate in a culinary exchange with U.S. Navy Sailors, teaching them how to cook traditional Maldivian dishes.

The last U.S. Navy ship to visit to the Maldives was the U.S.S. Higgins (DDG 76), also a guided missile destroyer, in February 2011.

Members of the press are invited to cover U.S.S. Russell’s arrival and meet with crew on September 28, 2011.  Press is also invited to cover the crew’s tea with high school students and culinary exchange.  For further information please contact:
