Hey Moms of 11/180 back in 2011.  Where are your children/spouses now?  I hope everybody is doing well. My boy graduated from college and is now on his way to Djibouti Africa for a year.  Anybody else deployed?  Navy experiences?  What a lot of water we have covered since boot camp.

Greetings !1/180 Moms.  It's so funny Jan decided to post now.  Just yesterday I was thinking of one year ago when we were getting ready to send Ben to Boot camp.  SO much has happened since then, but bottom line, Ben loves the Navy.  After BC Ben went to DamNeck at Virginia Beach for IS training.  He was there for A School and C School graduating in November, 2011.  I was able to go to the graduation, but is was small and not quite as emotional as BC.  That was an experience I will never forget.  My Father still mentions it as a highlight of his life to see his grandson join the Navy.  Ben and I drove back to Seattle, which was an amazing journey.  It is rare to spend one on one time with your young adult son.  He usually has better things to do :)  Ben reported to Everett Naval Base, but has since been transferred to Fort Lewis/McChord.  Ben is in the reserves, which he loves as it allows him to finish college.  But I do know he is looking forward to eventual deployment and being stationed in DC 2 weeks this summer.  Godspeed to you and your sailors in your continuing Navy Journey.  I will never forget the support and friendship of the 11/180 Moms.  I really kind of miss it.

Hi Jahn, and the rest of the 11/180 moms, It's hard to believe that it has been almost a year since they have been gone. Jahn, I'm happy to hear that your son is doing well. Wow, Pearl Harbor, that is awesome! You will have a nice place to visit, that's for sure! Our son is currently on deployment, and on the carrier, USS Carl Vinson. They are due to be back in their home port of San Diego in 2 months. He is an HT over there, now performing "crank duty", (ask your sailor's about that. Lol But so far he loves the Navy life, and has no regrets. Also, he came home in November, when the MI. State basketball game was played on the Carl Vinson, and got married before his deployment, which was Nov. 30th. Our Matt is on the USS Nimitz, another carrier, currently in dock at Everett,WA. He is an EM. and likes his job so far, but misses his girlfriend. She flew out to see him in February, and he is supposed to be coming home for Easter, for about 9 days. Keeping our fingers crossed on that. We booked his flight through Delta airlines, as their trip insurance will cover a military leave that is revoked. We recently found out that most on-line travel search engines will not cover this. So heads up on that, to all of the parents. Happy one year anniversary to all of our sailors and to all of you parents. It has been quite a journey! Take care all.

Hi all,
I was just thinking about all of you and how you were doing one year later...can you believe it!

My son will graduate from submarine school in Groton, CT (ET-NAV) on April 5th. Yes, he has been in schooling since leaving BC in May of last year. He is doing really well and has just gotten his orders...Pearl Harbor, Hawaii...

One of his friends from BC has been with him all the way thru BC, sub school and will be stationed on the same ship in Hawaii. That is so cool.

As we are on the west coast, CA northeast of Sacramento, it's been hard having him on the east coast. We are all super excited for his next adventure.

Hope all is well with you and yours. Happy one year anniversary! I don't think I could have made it thru those first few weeks without you. You will all always hold a special place in my heart.

Great that you can help others out!!  I have a friend whose son went thru bc and graduated last month, I was able to tell her about Navy for Moms and it helped her a great deal.

Jeff is on the USS Reagan in Coronado CA.  He is loving his work and went out for 3 weeks, was back for a week and is out again for another few weeks.  The ship will be dry-docked in January in Washington.  We are planning on taking a trip out to see him next Summer.  I can't wait.   I still follow the RTC website and now am following US Pacific Fleet.

I am glad to hear that your Sailor is doing well.  Keep us informed.

Hello Ladies!

I know it has been a loooong time…I’m sorry I have not updated but I did read all of your comments.

I have stayed on the site as a “veteran” mom and help out with the PIR groups. Shortly after our PIR JessicaB Sailor mom left the site for a time and I didn’t want her great info lost. All the veteran moms kind of have a niche so I asked the wonderful diannep if I could start posting Jessica’s info. Started there and then added some of my own. We all have little twists to our PIR experience that helps the ones following behind us.

Somehow I now help start all the new PIR groups! I love it and enjoy helping those like the moms that helped us all through PIR. It always reminds me of my own PIR experience and sharing with all of you. It keeps me quite busy and I finally stopped kicking myself to post on here! Just to catch up with you all. I know it has been awhile that anyone has posted but I thought I would give it a go!

Our Sailor has had a time of it. He went in as an IT and after two months of constantly failing, retaking and passing tests …then two weeks of remedial  he ended u failing out of the rating. No prior computer experience didn’t help…but it was only one of two ratings that day at MEPS.

However, the Navy retained him and allowed him to rerate! He got BU, Builder in the Seabee community…which is what he wanted originally (well SW – Steel Worker…but it is still Seabees!) and is flourishing there! Passing tests and projects with flying colors and is the Safety PO. PTing his butt off too! He will be home in December as he is a reservist. I’d like to put my blinders on…but I know it is when not “if” he gets deployed. ((sigh))

I hope that all of you and your Sailors are doing well. I will keep TG 28 in my prayers.

Go 11/180!
