I am sorry that I had not been back on this page for a while.  I was new to Navy for Moms when my daughter was assigned to this ship.  I do not maintain this group any longer because there is an FRG and Facebook page, which seems to dominate most conversations.  I will as the Navy for Moms admin to delete this group after this posting.  Fair Winds and Following Seas for this group.....sail on over to FB and the FRG- a great supportive group!

I think most people use the Oak Hill Facebook site and the Uss Oak Hill FRG facebook site. I was notified by email of a new member, that's the only reason why I saw your comment. Welcome!

Hello, I was wondering if this group is still active?

Though I am not "on" facebook, here are some links to follow for deployment, if you want to see some recent pics.  Virginia-Pilot has some stories as well.  Did not see them off, but did spend time with my Sailor, even thru the rain and wind and flooded streets all around Norfolk.

Thanks LarLar for the warm welcome! I "liked" the Oak Hill facebook page and have already requested to be a member of the closed group just for families. I'm very excited for him! He has a lot to get used to - he said it took him 20 minutes the first day just to find the head!

Welcome sockmonkeymom! He's joined the crew at an exciting time for them.  i hope he acclimates to ship life fairly quickly they are very busy these days, and for OPSEC, you'd have to get info from him directly for more details.  Their facebook page link is above..as i am not a facebook member, i only get snippets off their facebook and from my daughter.  we can do private email if you need other info about life aboard an amphibious landing dock ship such as the Nation's Protector!  Try to get to Norfolk/Little Creek for a visit. Congratulations again for your Sailor's 1st assignment in the Navy.
