EAJmom-- Start saving now!!! Best trip of my LIFE was when we went and spent 3 weeks traveling all over Italy with our Bee!! I was so tired by the end but every second was so worth it!! Sigonella is Beautiful!!  My Favorite town is Cefalu!! I posted pictures on this thread I believe.(scroll back)  Skype became our lifeline!  He can get a cheap phone plan there. DO NOT take his American plan!  He'll need to get a phone there as well unless he has one that has been unlocked.  If he wants a car tell him to get a beater from the base. Sailors leaving are often selling them. He doesn't want anything super nice since the roads are rough and NARROW!!! USAA has the best overseas insurance.  A Mountain bike is better than a road bike and he wants a cheap one!  Temperatures are moderate most of the year but there is Skiing on Mt Etna.  It is a similar climate to Colorado.  He will need a civilian passport if he wants to visit any country other than Italy.  Travel in Europe is Cheap and travel by Train is the best way to get around the country/ Between countries.  Drive as little as possible!!  We told our Bee to go see as much of Europe as he could while he was there and not to come home (Heartbreaking to do so.) because we knew that this might be his only/best chance to see that part of the world! My bee is back in a stateside battalion now but misses SIg even though at the time he hated being so far from home!

Hello!  My son just finished "c" school and will report to Sigonella the later this month. Mixed feelings - excited for him and sad for us. We hope to visit him at some point.

Hello mysailorsmom and allie1928 how are your sons liking Sigonella? I made it over in August and got to see both bases. Of course Italy is beautiful so I'm sure they are getting to see lots of great places!
