Sue, the leader of the Heads at Ease group that makes pillowcases for deployed and injured military personnel, announced that we are pleased to be providing hand-made pillowcases to all the crew of the USS New York. These are to commemorate the commissioning of this very special ship.

I requested that the members of this group who have a loved one serving on the USS New York make me a friend on N4M. When you do, please put "I'm a USS NY Mom" (even if you are a dad, spouse, girl/boyfriends, etc.). I will then PM you some information that will help us.

So far only four moms have contacted me. I know that many of you are at the commissioning but please contact me when you return. Many thanks!

I am not a mother of a someone on the USS New York. What a great thing you are doing
Thanks, Gloria. I think te USS New York is special to all Americans. We are pleased to be allowed to do this project!
we sure are. everytime I tell someone about it, they start to cry.
Sue,

I picked up a commissioning book that had all of the sailors/plank owners listed. Would a copy of the list help?

Kaywin
Kay, let's see what Dori says. She has been working on this, but I imagine that it would help. Thank you!

we are in the process of gathering them from all over the country in one place. It's exciting,.
Kay, what I really need is for more "moms" on this list to make me a friend. So far only five have done so and I know that there are more in this group. If I don't get more soon, I will ask you to do me a favor using the commissioning book. Thanks for offering to help!
Can you tell me where you got that book with the sailors listed? I would love a copy!
Kay,

Do you know where I can order a copy of the commissioning book?

Thank you,

Tamara
I haven't been able to find out any information about getting more copies of the commissioning book. We picked up our copy in New York at the ceremonies.
Thanks ladies for this wonderful project. I saw some pics and it appears that the pillowcases on the USS New York were enjoyed by all, including my son! I'm sure that everyone who receives a pillowcase from you appreciate this gift from your heart! It's a little slice of home, no matter where they are.
NJMom, thanks for taking the time to let us know. It is also fun to see you have a sailor holding a pillowcase as your profile picture. I assume this is your son?
Yes, it is my son. I was quite surprised to find his photos among the ones posted by NY Ombudsman and thought that I would use it since I didn't have a photo. I am proud of him, as I am of all the men and women who serve our country and am grateful to all who support them.
