I am not sure where to stay...

I had made reservations for the Ramada before we knew there was going to be a Meet and Greet there.. we didn't get our email confirmation.. so I called.  Nothing was sent... so I called again the next day... gave them my husbands email.. ziltch... so I waited a few days.. I went online to look up the hotel, and there was a "traveler comment" section.  I selected it.. and there was not a lot of good things said.. appearently it is not in a very good part of town.. and the pool has worn off paint and it is very runed down..

I called the hotel and they said that the hotel does need the pool resurfaced and it needs updated but they were going to do it hopefully next year..

Those are flags going off in my head because if something wrong can happen.. for me it will.  I asked them about the surrounding area and neighborhood.  They said it was "okay".. WARNING!! I'm thinking..

So I called the base and they told me that North of Chicago is not the best place to be.  South side of Chicago is better.

So I called a few hotels on the south side and they are more expensive as well.  I am "step mom" so I am not on the guarenteed guest list, same with my elderly parents.. so if we can't get in to see Corinne graduate, I wanted to be able to do other things.. and not be scared to leave my hotel.

Does anyone have any suggestions.. ??? I don't know what to do.

what is your budget and how many days? we have done well at the Hawthorne Suites by Wyndham - they are doing a 2 night get 25% off promo. also the marriott residence inn in Gurness Waukegan have a navy Graduation discount. Hawthorne is cheaper...
Try the Navy Lodge. $65/nt
Kelly- I booked a room at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Northbrook. Its closer to than staying in Chicago and the rooms are decent in price. I looked at the Navy Lodge website, that also looks good and alot closer....
Several from the 8/13 group stayed at Marriott's Springhill Suites and LOVED it. $99 Navy special. Right near that is a Marriott Courtyard that a friend stayed in. Nice too. We stayed at Marriott Residence Inn and really loved that. One and two bedroom suites, with full kitchens. 2 baths in the 2 bedroom. Free hot breakfast in the lobby. Shuttle from all 3 hotels to PIR ($3/pp each way). About 4-5 miles from the base. All of these are very close together....the first two are next to the Walmart shopping center with restuarants around. The Residence is before that and by itself. But quiet area. Good luck!
Thanks for the response... I heard that Springhill is nice.. but I am concerned with being in North Chicago. I heard that it is very run-down and not a very nice part of town. I will be traveling with my parents that don't get around too well. So I would rather drive so my parents don't have to stand long and wait for a shuttle... geezzz I just don't know what to do. I would like $65 a night because the van gremlins came and my van now needs work before we leave... but the Navy Lodge is full. So I really don't want to go over $80.00 a night. We are planning on Sept 9th to the 12th.
I'm not sure of the availability, but check the Staybridge Suites..
Thanks! We just reserved the one in LIberty.. $94/night. Large rooms and they are suites so we will save $$ by cooking instead of going out.
Thanks!
Glad that I could help. That's N4M's at it's best!
Thanks for the help.. but they dropped the ball too! I didn't get a confirmation from them either. So I called them. THey had my email at "coast" . net instead of "Toast".net I even told them.. toast like bread and butter.. I have never heard of "coast". No biggy right? The hotel then went to verify my address, and that was wrong as well. THe street was wrong, the city was wrong. The only thing right was I live in Ohio. So we got it all straightened out... I went to hang up, and something told me to verify the rooms. THere are 9 of us coming 8 adults and 1 child. (teen). So we needed 2 rooms. Well they had 2 rooms with 1 standard bed.. they weren't even the suites they told me about!! I asked to speak to customer service. THey said that they are standard rooms, not suites with 1 bed.. I asked where are the other people going to sleep... bottom line they didn't have room at the hotel, it is now booked and we had to cancel the reservations because the standard room with one bed would not hold us. So back to square one.

I did find another suite for us in Lincoln. I have 2 rooms rented at 2 hotels and on Tuesday I will verify the one we WANT to say at, and if it is still correct I will cancel the other. I am afraid with my luck lately if I don't we will all end up sleeping in the car. lol

I do apprecaite your thoughtfulness and help. Thank you!
:) Kelly
