Yes! You are not alone! My son is also starts on June 30th!

Super! I  am glad to know someone else. Have you started making any preparations?

Not really, just preparing my heart to be more happy for him than sad for me. I did tell him we should go through this website together so he can prepare for it, but we haven't done it yet. And you? Have you been preparing?

I have  not been preparing, but my son has.  He has researched , studied, and bought books to read on what to expect.  He has had a 9 month wait, so he had some time to kill. He was sure about his decision, but I believe he is a little anxious.  I am in somewhat a different situation. My son had already lived away from home. He attended some college, and he is 24 years old. He had thought about joining the Army when he was 18.  That would had been a different situation. I am sad that I will not be able to communicate or see him as often, but it was going to happen eventually.  Our children grow older and we grow older, it is part of the process. This site has been nice place to visit.  A lot of support.  Hang in there!  The Navy is a good place for them to be.

Yes, although it wouldn't be my choice, I know it's the best place for him right now. He's looking forward to the adventure and has been talking Navy for a couple of years, so I'm not surprised at his decision. He's not ready for college, and I think it will be a good experience for him. It's good your son is getting ready.

My son leaves June 30, too.

I'm a little overwhelmed by all that needs to be done before he goes . . . everything from getting him a "slim black wallet" to a arranging for a Power of Attorney!  Thank goodness for the information on the N4M web site.  My daughter was in NROTC, but this is completely different.

Time to make some lists!

Thanks for reminding me about the Power of Attorney.  I had forgot about that.  Yes it is time to make a list.  I just wish I had graduation dates, so I could start planning.

Hello Ladies,

Well the time is getting closer. How you all holding up?  I am starting to get a little sad, but anxious and excited for him. I know he is anxious about the unknown.  We are going to give him a going away party with a few of his friends and family.  Looking forward to that time.

Doing okay! Yesterday & today have been a bit of a challenge, with the date quickly approaching and today he graduated from high school. But whenever I started to get a little teary I have been able to hold it together (not like me at all!) and shift to the excitement of his adventure. It will be a very busy & fast month for us, with graduation ceremonies & he also needs to squeeze in an Eagle Scout ceremony. I will likely fall apart in July. :)

Hang in there!  I am getting teary eyed as well (not like me either). I am glad that I had some time with him, I believe it has strengthened our relationship.  You seem to have a lot going on.  I am staying busy as well. Good plan.  We have been trying to squeeze in quality time on the weekends.  We can both fall apart in July.  Ha!  I have been planning projects to keep me busy.  If you need some support, and I am here.

Just checking in to see how your week has been...we're doing okay! Whenever I start to miss him, I pray for him instead (mostly for his strength and that he will have a godly friend). I am looking forward to getting the letter so I can write him, but I'm thinking I might start the first letter to him today so I can get it in the mail asap.

Hello, I just joined this website and my son also left on June 30th for boot camp.  I have been a complete mess.  He is almost 21 years old and has never been away from home even for a summer camp.  I received his box last Thursday and that tore at my heart.  I can not wait to receive his first letter.  From what state did your sons leave from? I am in Missouri. My son is a very quiet person and I am hoping he meets some one he can talk to while away.  Hope to hear from you!  Thank you-
