Hi and welcome! It has been 3 years already for me. We flew to milwaukee and drove to great lakes on a thursday. We stayed at the ramada inn and used the shuttle to go to PIR on friday. After PIR we spent the day together until curfew. My son flew from Ohare . He was dropped off after midnight on Saturday and we spent time in the airport until the flight left. We then left on Sunday. We gad hoped for extra time so we stayed the extra day. It is unusual to get the extra day. In the airport you can give your son his phone and computer. I gave mine underwaer and his own glasses too. Good Luck
Hi Julieb1019--thanks for that info. We're in VA and and def will be there on thurs and I think I will reserve sat night now also just in case. was ramada a good hotel? The shuttle sounds good. Did u go to the sarge meet and greet-I'd like for us to do that or any of the other meet and greets.

Welcome to the group!  I know this will not be a helpful answer, but sometimes they leave late Saturday and sometimes on Sunday.  One of the things for certain is that nothing is for certain in the Navy.  The airlines do not work with you when plans change suddenly.  We planned to spend time with our sailor the day after PIR, but he was shipped out during the night.  We were able to spend several hours with him at the airport to send him off, and ended up finding things to do the next day.  Once A school is over and they are assigned a home base, things get so much easier to plan.  Our son is in Gulfport and getting ready for 2nd deployment.  You will learn to roll with the Navy schedule, but it definitely takes some getting used to!

They leave sat after pir my wife is doing the same thing

My son graduated Feb 8, 2013 and flew out on Saturday morning.  We spent Friday with him and met him at the airport on Saturday morning and stayed with him until he took off.

My son loved Port Huenema and is now stationed in Coronado, CA (San Diego).  Seabee CM.  What is your son's classification?

How long was ur son in school my wife will be there soon for A school
Hi Kathybship13div099-my son will also be Seabee CM. We vacationed in San Diego when he was 6 yrs. old-little did I know then there could be a chance he may be stationed there in the navy one day. It was beautiful there. Will he have choices as to where he may be stationed after A school?
Hi y-my son is excited about port hueneme and his upcoming A school for Seabee CM.

I think my son stayed in Port Hueneme for 2-3 months for A school.  He loved it out there and wanted to stay out West, but was assigned to Gulfport.  The Navy ships them off where they need men, so they don't get much of a choice about their assignments.  It has worked out really well tho, because he found his future wife in New Orleans.  They got married a few weeks ago!

Hi auburnlark-my son PIR is 09/12/14 ship 11 div 284. Yes he's going to be a Seabee CM. I'm still learning all about this too. Join the Seabee Mom group for sure. My son name is Sean and we're from VA.
My wife is a seabee too and going to port hueneme and will be there next week
