My son leaves for BC August 26th. According to him, he goes to the recruiting station on the 25th and they will take him to a hotel for the night and then on to MEPS. He says he has already sworn in so I should just take him to the recruiting station to say goodbye. I thought they did the swearing in on the day they left. Does anyone know if his info could be right? He's been doing this whole thing on his own, so I really don't have any idea other than what I read here and what he tells me.

Hi Grace3298, so I had the same question and contacted my sons recruiter. My son is a DEPPER so I thought I missed my chance to see him sworn in, but his recruiter told me that he will be sworn into active duty the morning of the day he shows up for MEPS. Hope this helps you. Our son left today...I will be able to see him sworn in!

Thanks! My son is a DEPPER as well. I was hoping to see him sworn in. He's done all of this on his own (he's 21) so I don't even know his recruiter's name. I have to rely on him for information...very frustrating as I like to plan things out :-)

My fiance is in the same boat, leaving August 19th. From what he says, everything sounds the same except there IS a swearing in before they officially leave. :)

My daughter leaves Aug 5.  My understanding is that I drop her off at the hotel assigned by the Navy the night before so Aug 4th.  The next morning they get sworn in officially before they leave to go to boot camp.  They do paperwork and other things before they leave the MEPS.  She told me that parents typically do not go to the MEPS in the morning.  Parents should say goodbye when they drop off at the hotel.

You can go to MEPS to see her sworn in. It is up to you and your future Sailor. Most recruiters pick up the future Sailor to go to the hotel, but some do have the parents drop them off. Some loved ones don't know they can go to MEPS and some aren't able to go for various reasons.

Check your My Page.

Parents are able to attend the swearing in of active duty at MEPS per my sons recruiter, and other parents who have attended. Look up the MEPS Center online and go to the parent section. Hope this helps
My son has been doing everything on his own also. But he did say that after he goes to the hotel we can take him out to dinner and there is a swearing in again the morning he leaves that parents do attend. He is leaving the 11th.

Thanks. Do you know if they put them in a hotel near the MEPS center or near the recruiting center?

I'm sure the recruiter would be very helpful, but my son has done this on his own and I don't even know the recruiter's name. Plus, my son would not be happy with me if I called his recruiter...he's 21 and doesn't want his mom stepping in on this (he's trying very hard to be a responsible, independent adult about it all).

Geosmom, Once your recruit is at BC and after, the recruiter isn't a whole lot of help.

Some recruiters do keep up with what happens at the RTC, but the majority do not. Just be aware and check the info against that in https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand (if posted by the PAO as U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command) and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/index.asp. Many of us on here do stay up-to-date as well, but those are the sites for the true answer.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I talked to my son about it again and got him to contact his recruiter. They are having a ceremony at MEPS before they head to the airport. However, my son wants to say goodbye at the recruiting station instead - he says it will be too hard to see me at MEPS or at the airport. I have to honor his wishes, though I'd really like to see him sworn in. August 25th is approaching fast!!
