My son just left for BC on Monday, so I have no information about PIR yet. We are a Navy family, but it has still been a tough week for this Navy wife and Mom. I am so proud of my son, Dillon. I just don'[t want to cut the umbilical cord yet:)

I am located just over the state line from Shreveport, LA in a very rural community of DeBerry, Texas. It is very close to Carthage. Are there any of you that are closer to me than Tyler? I would love to join the Tyler group sometime when you get together. It is only a little over an hour from me.

Hi ncowan, I live in Jacksonville. My son has been enlisted for nearly 3 years and is stationed in Virginia Beach but I can totally understand about the "not wanting to cut the cord yet" LOL!

Thank you for the support, Geraley! I am getting there, but it is difficult none-the-less. I think it helped that I heard from him yesterday.

Hi CarthageNavyMom . We are in Mineola 20 min north of Tyler. Would love for an East Texas group to get together. I am on an emotional roller coaster this week. My 18 year old son leaves Aug 12 for BC. It's tough, but trying to be real strong for him. I am proud and encourage his decision.

I know exactly where Mineola is. It seems that I am a couple of weeks ahead of you. My son left on July 29th and PIR is scheduled for 9/19. Maybe I can keep you informed as to what to expect, etc... If you need a shoulder, I can certainly make a drive to help in between work weeks.

That is awesome! My main thing right now is I can't get his recruiter to call me back. I have questions, but I can tell you this site has been very helpful. I am going to recruiters office tommorrow whether I hear from her or not. Did your son go to MEPS in Shreveport? I have questions regarding that whole process. I would be so grateful if you could tell me what that experience is like.

Yes, My son did go to MEPS in Shreveport. The night before he flies out, he will go to a hotel in Shreveport. There are a couple that they use. Prior to that, he had to meet with the recruiter to do a urinalysis. We got a room at the same hotel and stayed there the night before he left. They have to check in and then, they have nothing to do all day. The next morning, they get up early and leave for MEPS. We were told to be there around 10 am for swear in, but my son called us earlier and said to get there. They were doing it early. We watched and were able to take pictures of him swearing in. Then, we sat with him until he got his travel information. We then met him at the Shreveport Airport. They will let 1-2 people accompany him all the way to the gate, but you must be with him at check in.

You have to ask for a gate pass when he checks in. That will get you through security. Oh and when they are at the hotel the day before they fly out, they may sign out and leave the hotel and sign back in, but lights out at 10pm.

I knew about the hotel, but don't know which one. I'm trying to find out. I know we can't be in his room and he has to be in his room by 10:00. He tells me we should just follow the shuttle the next morning to MEPS. I didn't know we could meet him at airport. Thanks for the info. He is telling me that we are to drive him down from recruiters office in Tyler on Monday ( the day before). It's all coming so fast
Hey Carthage Navy Mom I am in Jacksonville Texas also. My son Has been in almost 2 years he is in Norfolk Virginia.
