I had to take my baby to Houston to his hotel on Sunday.  Yesterday morning I was awakened by a missed phone call and several texts from him begging me to come get him.  He was scared and nervous.  I had to show the tough love yesterday as hard as it was for me to do, I did it.  The military was his idea and he's been in the DEP since November of last year and has had plenty of time to get out.  He is a very bright young man and is going in as Nuke.  He cussed me and told me what a horrible mother I was and that I just gave him up etc. etc.  I didn't take any of it to heart because I know he is just scared and nervous. He has never been away from me like this and he has 3 younger brothers at home that he loves dearly.  I watched him swear in and he was fine while we were there but once I got home I txt him to make sure he was ok and the ugly texts started flowing again. I was quite positive that I would not receive the phone call from RTC last night.  I figured he would call his girlfriend but much to my surprise I did receive the call around 10:45.  He sounded good so I hope and pray that he gives this a chance and doesn't give up.  I have cried more in the past 48 hours than I have my entire life I think.  He's my rock, my everything and I have always had to push him. He's always had the brains but not the confidence so I always pushed him to do his best and I'm not stopping now.  He is 18 and is a grown man but Mama will always be there as much as possible to boost his confidence.  I feel like the absolute worst mother in the world because I feel like I abandoned him but again, I know deep in my heart that he needs this.  Prayers please!!!

You didn't abandon him, you are giving him room to pursue his dreams; besides he is the one who would have had to back out, you couldn't just pick him up. My son had second and third and fourth thoughts about joining before he shipped and he has now been in for 6 years. Keep encouraging him. I'm sorry that he chose to lash out at you, but he knew it was safe to do that and that you would continue to love him.

(((((AprilB1977))))) That's a cyber hug from one Navy Mom to another.

Thank you so much!  I will continue to push him and encourage him.  And yes, he definitely knows that no matter what Mama will ALWAYS be here for him!

:o)

I've see it happen with future Sailors with all kinds of contracts, but Nukes and those who have contracts that require higher security clearances seem to go through it harder than those with other contracts. Check your My Page.

Thank you so much.  I really feel like this is the best decision he has ever made and to see h im want to back out at the last minute really was disappointing but I have always babied him and supported him in everything he did.  I hope he's ok and not disappointed!

You gave him exactly what he needed...and my heart is breaking for you.  It had to be so very very tough.  He will be fine though.  In fact, I bet he's better than fine.  Soon you and his younger brothers can start sending him letters letting him know exactly how proud you all are.  Hang in there!

Thank you so much!

You didnt abandon him, you helped him!! My son just left yesterday (8/20) and I was doing ok until today..almost had a breakdown sitting here at work..trying to stay busy...I got my scripted call about 10:45 IL time (11:45 here in NC) and had to fight the tears..the confidence your son needs, I know the Navy will give it to him...my son said he was nervous but he knew it was the best thing for him...know that Im praying for u and your son!!!

Thank you, prayers for you and your family too!  I just received my box and I've never been more excited to see my baby's messy handwriting in my life.  His pant legs were rolled up a little which I have heard is because when they were measuring for boots he probably didn't have time to roll them back down.

Kay_Cee76, check your My Page.

You are not a bad mom in fact you are a very strong and good mom because sometimes we have to give them not what they want but what we know they need.  He is obviously a very bright young man and will do fine in bc.  I'm glad you got the call and were able to talk to him.  Sending hugs and prayers your way.  Stay strong.

Thank you so much and I'm trying!  I received my box from fedex today and have never been happier to see his handwriting!!!!
