Hello All-

On Saturday 8/9/14, I received a voice mail from my daughter who is/was in Div. 305.  Her voice mail indicated she had fractured her femur and would either be coming home or being held over.  Nothing more.... I have not received any additional information or phone calls after this!  I don't know what has been decided, don't know the extent of the injury, where she is, anything.....  )-:    Public Affairs in Great Lakes told me on Monday that the reason I had not received a call from her or the Navy was because she had not made a decision as to what she was going to do???   Is someone going to call me?  I need some information for my sanity......I have called her recruiter, the chief within her recruiting office, the Red Cross, messaged the recruiting Facebook page, and spoke to public affairs and nobody has any information...

My son broke his ankle (during shore duty in HI). The doctors took good care of him. Your daughter will be well taken care of. I know it might not lessen your worry but it might give you a bit more patience in waiting for information. Your daughter will call YOU once she has decided what to do. Often, the recruit doesn't get a choice (depends on extent of injury and whether after recovery, he/she can be a benefit to the Navy). Since the Public Affair office indicated that SHE has to make a choice - it means she won't be involuntarily separated - and that is great news.

For future reference, we reserve calling the Red Cross in case of family tragedies (such as death in immediate family).

I hope she decides to stay but if she decides to come home, best of luck to her in the future.

You will receive a call when there is a change in status. Until she makes a decision, then she is in limbo. She may be in the hospital or the RCU. If she decides to stay she will be in the RCU until she is well enough to continue training. If she decides to go home she will be treated enough so that she is fit for travel and sent to SEPS. There is info in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology) on the RCU and SEPS, including groups for both.

Thank you everyone....  I have received one call from her. Apparently its not a fractured femur but something going on in her hip. She is still there doctoring with many different specialties so hopefully soon we will have a diagnosis.

Please keep us updated.

Meg was moved to the recovery unit last week.  I have heard that they can receive small care packages while in this unit. Can anyone confirm this?  Is this is true, what types of things should I avoid?

Check in SHIP 04 DIV 2341 as to what you can and cannot send. Your recruit is the best source for info on what you can send.
