OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

With recent threats from ISIL targeting military personnel at home, I urge each of you to search for your Sailor and remove them from these "find people sites".

Spokeo is one of the most accessible sites with detailed info, including your street, family members and age.  I'm still working on removing my Sailor from other sites but his is how you can remove them from Spokeo.com

1.  First, search for your Sailor by name and City.  Be sure to check all address' and cities.

2.  Follow this link http://www.spokeo.com/opt_out/new = paste the URL to their search results and complete the fields on the opt out page.

3.  You must follow the confirmation link that you receive in an email.

Let's help keep them safe.  If any of you have other tips, please share.  SPREAD THE WORD AND REMEMBER OPSEC.

p.s. while you're at it, remove your entire family.  This must be done periodically, because somehow they'll show up again from new public records.

Here is the info for 411.info search site.

Thank you very much, but I'll take my security cues from my Sailor. She's better versed in such things than anyone here.

If it is that much of a concern, shouldn't we just shut down this entire site?

Thank you for this info!  I'd copied it and messaged it to my sailor son and he mentioned he did this before.  But he thank me for being concerned.

I'm not giving anyone the advantage with regard to my sons safety.
