Hey J'sMom,

My son leaves 3 August 2015. His older brother is currently at BC right now. He has been there since 13 Nov 2015. If you have any questions about the his first few weeks at BC let us know. Our first son's PIR is 9 Jan 2015.

Thanks for the response.  I haven't been on here lately.  How are things going with your boys?

Going great. We've received two phone calls from our oldest son since he arrived to GL on 13 Nov. He says they do a lot of standing around waiting, marching, and memorizing. They still have not gotten into the meat of the training yet. He's says he is a little bored and homesick, otherwise, he is doing fine. His brother is still in DEP and waiting for August. Of course, now he is really interested in what his brother is saying about BC! We've told his older brother not to tell him everything about BC. He needs a few surprises too!

I hope you are getting ready for PIR.  Your other son will be very interested in going to that!

The recruiter just asked my son to leave earlier than August 4th.  We had a discussion about it and decided it would ok.  So now we are waiting for my information.  We figured we would hear something after the holiday stand down and things get back to normal.  I'm a planner, so it is killing to not have a plan.

Since he may get an earlier ship date, be sure you are discussing the items in Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., especially the 3 or 4 people who will be placed on the Access List and how he wants you to handle bad news.

My son is leaving August 12th.  Anyone else?

My son is leaving August 12th as well

Having the wisdom teeth removed at the RTC does NOT set a recruit back. The recruits are well taken care of and have down time similar to what would be prescribed in the civilian world. The recruits have 2 days SIQ and have someone who checks to see that the recruits are taking their pain meds and drinking plenty of water as directed. They then have at least one day of LLD and must be checked before returning to full training.

Yes, our son is also right out of high school.  He entered the DEP program in August 2014.  It is starting to get "REAL".

We too thought about getting wisdom teeth pulled, but decided to let the Navy do it.  We have been told by several people that the Navy does this daily and know what they are doing, and the recruit get 2 days in the rack to rest.  We left it up to our son and he wanted to wait.  I guess we will have to see if that is a mistake or not.

His date has not been moved up YET.  His recruiter is taking his paperwork to "BIG Navy" to get his E-3 since he completed 4 years of JrROTC today.  So we will see.  It is to my understanding it is his choice to move the date, and he is in his cousin wedding in July.  I'm not sure he will want to move it forward.  I hope not.  I need all the time I can have to process everything and get MYSELF prepared! lol!

Yes, 2 days SIQ followed by at least one day of LLD and the recruit must be declared FFD before returning to full training.

SIQ = Sick in Quarters

LLD = Light Limited Duty

FFD = Fit for Full Duty

A Push Division is one that is filled with only 8 Fridays instead of 9. There is more on a Push Division in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).

The Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), will help you with many of the new terms you will come across.
